« on: January 24, 2017, 04:36:57 pm »
Anyone know of a good submersible pump, mine has cracked in the cold weather, needs to be able to go from my ibc tank to my van tank which is about 10 meters away

Sorry to hear that Stephen.

To be quite honest I quite surprised all the years my sub pump has be left inside an ibc in the back garden unprotected in subzero temps it's not done the same.

Any chepo high volume sub pump would do surely?  Just attach a larger diameter hose and petrol station style trigger gun if you want a fast fill.

This one I have been using for last two years. Fills up  600 litre tank in under 5min. Check other sellers can be purchased  cheaper £35-40.

Been using the same pump for around 7 years. At times 3 window cleaners filling and been 2 of us non stop the past 5 years. All of that time it has been wet in the storage tank. So would defiantly vouch for this one 👍

I made sure I got ibc's with the larger lid so no.  Never got around to fit an outside power socket to plug it into so  I just use as standard plug as the cable that came with mine is long enough to run back to inside the conservatory.

Yep I cut a whole in mine to fit it in , was a pita rinsing it out after - getting all the bit of plastic shavings out the bottom of the tank

I've been using one similar from screwfix for around the last 6months. Fills my 400ltr tank in less than 7 mins

If I let my old sub pump run dry I just submerge it and turn it on its side as for some strange reason it primes quicker that way. Mind it's years old so don't come with a float switch that might be the case with your particular issue. Does the pump turn on when you hold the float switch up?

Good question Smurf. Those float switches work either way depending on which wire you use. I have the MachineMart supplied one and I use mine the other way to a submersible. I have to connect my black wire to the positive feed to fill the tank. To empty the tank the blue wire is connected to the positive.

So to empty the tank the black wire isn't connected but made safe.

If the pump activates when the float is hanging down, the wires aren't connected correctly.

Make sure it is fully submerged.
