Why don't roof cleaners use these?
« on: January 15, 2017, 05:54:09 pm »
I've watched a number of videos of roof cleaning where it's a choice of standing on the tiles or using roof ladders, but am I missing something why don't they use  the type of cherry picker I've shown below, they can even pass through a 1m gate and fit on a small trailer

Mike , we use spider lifts  quite often for roofs ,  Easy than handling roof ladders , fall arrest equipment , hoses ect

Never fancied loading someones patio with a tracked boom or spider , if it causes damage who will be liable  ::)roll
tracked booms will still rip soft landscapes

Plus we can clean far quicker from ropes than using a boom  ;)

We don't go on patios for that reason  , if you board the grass where the tracks go then you are fine

Mike , unless you have a regular contract that requires a lift,  just hire one
Seen that one on ebay !
For more money of course , more outreach and height with a Kubota diesel engine , self-leveling  is the one
to go for

Why don't roof cleaners use these?
Cost maybe as if anything like the cowboys in my town they don't seem to give a fig about H&S.
It's quite common to see them clambering about on roofs using a washer free style without any safety gear at all.

Just seen you can hire one for a week for£200 , if you did have a roof to clean then you could add £200 into the price no problem, I think it would be an easy sale to get the customer to pay an extra £200 for the job when you tell them it would entail no walking on the roof.

And you could do 2-3 roofs in a week and it would be easily affordable

So you want to rent this type of thing for a week for more than one job. How are you going to move it between job locations though unless they are all next to each other?  ::)roll

Regards adding on the hire cost in the quote. Most cowboys down my way don't charge much more than 250 to pressure wash a house roof. Now you can see why they do it free style as keeps costs down so more profit for them lol

Far does that's if it would fit on it ok...Under the hire agreement would you be allowed/insured to tow it about on the public highway yourself though as those things are not cheap should you have a wee mishap?

No idea to be honest, I was working on my neighbour who had his done in 2 days. My 2-3 was just throwing Out ideas on how it could be affordable to hire one of these machines, not really giving an exact example.

Smurf again I'm just throwing out ideas, exact logistics and insurance requirements would be some thing to look into

I take it it's possible to steam roof clean more like 2-3  in a day then with that reply...  If not more being blocks of houses?

Maybe you need to employ this guy Mike  ;D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7kq21OnqOw

Out of the last dozen plus houses we have cleaned only 1 could of been cleaned via a mewp, these properties rang from semis to large 5m+ pads. The problem is access unless you take the risk driving on patios and grass. You can board the grass but only in summer months so that generally rules out Oct - April !

At some stage you will need to leave mewp and go on the roof  :)

Just do what the majority of soft washers do,
stick scafolding up to the gutter line quick brush then spray chem up the roof simple  :D
