How do you fix your hose reel in your van?
« on: December 02, 2016, 08:58:53 am »
I have my reel fixed in back of my van but have seen others on here with it fixed parallel with wheel arches fixed on a board (pictures would be good). Because my van was boarded out the plywood that reel was fixed to has now gone rotten so I need some inspiration to get it sorted with some other ideas that other people use for their system.

I used 2 brick hangers, and a few pipe holders, it's fitted inside the roof of the van to keep floor space clear. I will do the second reel one day just haven't got round to it

i use the base of a swivel chair i can face it in any direction then and dont have to bend when reeling in.

Mines not fixes because I love taking but out in find it by far the easiest way to work lifting it out and pointing it in the direction of where you want to work

I work the same way and have outside ports so can lock doors if needed, it is handier than a fixed reel but can be hard on the back.

I can do that as I have a two man system but find the reels are too heavy to lump in and out of van.

i have one in a dog bed, with side trimmed down to reel in,  the other on a flat ridged frame covered with rubber matting ,  im sick of water dribbles all the time.
it must be great to have a tidy safe setup to work from

Mine isnt fixed in, but i have wooden blocks that keep it in a fixed position inside the van so it doesnt slide etc when driving. I also have external ports so i can lift the reel outside the van which i prefer to do and i can close n secure the van. However in the more quieter locations and saver locations i simply keep it in the van. I keep my pole hose connected to it and so i dont get any drips in the van.  I also lift reel into van before i wind hose back in, just for the ease of it.

I've just changed from a truck (reels on slides that locked into the tailgate) to a van and trying to decide how to fix the reels.

I like the idea of them being the correct height to avoid bending down all the time and to avoid lugging them in and out. So think I will put them up high on a frame like reflections southwest and have rollers through the floor.
Anyone else have this set up?

You should be reeling in with a straight back whichever way you choose to mount your reel. Bend your knees not your back!
This fixed reel malarkey isn't going to work for me, I'm now thinking how I can rig up a roller 1/2 a meter from the rear of the vehicle. Similar to PF's double reel setup.

The picture doesn't show it but mine goes through rollers And out through the van floor, I also have external ports under the bumper and can put out free standing reels if needed best of both worlds , up to a maximum of 6 reels working at the same time if needed but rarely use more than 4 .

Interested in your placements for things and how you have secured the frame rails.  I take it your hose reel is as close to the back door as possible to save leaning in?

I've only got 2 reels, not 6 😂 But trying to decide if keep them as the are one at the side and one at the back or move both up high on rails then roller through the floor as your rear 2 are. Although I do think it's handy to have a real on the side. Keeps us out each other's way but means 2 separate frames so on.
