« on: November 28, 2016, 03:51:24 pm »
Hi all ,

Iv just read this story about being fined £150 for having a no smoking sign in the van . It's the first time Iv heard of it , think il order some just in case.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3978294/Self-employed-workman-70-fined-150-not-displaying-No-Smoking-sign-van-TWO-times-penalty-caught-smoking.html

Anyone else been pulled for not having one?

Someone told me that he and another person were fined for smoking in the van. If it's your own vehicle surely you don't need a sign and you can smoke if it's only used for work by yourself?

I know it's law if your employing but I didn't know that !

Surely the bell end of an officer could have had a little discretion.

The van I'm using at the mo has no smoking signs in the cab as is an x british gas van but I still smoke in it.
So where do I stand if the rossers see me smoking in it and does that mean I can still get fined?

When I was driving hgv's I wondered how some folk could drive into a depot (sainsburys) smoking. Turned out owner drivers can smoke away in there cab to their lungs content. Being a non smoker for around 15 years I can't stand the smell never mind the smoke and I would argue that you shouldn't be allowed to smoke in cars or in public.
However I don't mind the smell of "soft black" stuff so I'd make that exempt from anything.

I thought that story was rather funny as neither of them smoked  ;D

One of them probably upset the traffic warden whilst parking on double yellows if the truth be known and/or was just jobs worth out to get them somehow who knows.

You need the sticker doesn't matter if you don't smoke or are the only user of the van, Smurf be careful if your vehicle is
insured for more than one driver.

Ridiculous, you couldn’t make it up.

You should be, the crafty jobsworth that stopped me a few years back would have done me if he had found evidence that I had
been smoking as my wife is also on my insurance, he even checked the ashtray. (roll eyes)
Luckily I already had a sticker.

I haven't got an ashtray anymore  as it broke what with the weight of the butts in it  ;D
When the law first came in loads got done but now traffic cops have better things to do than stopping vans because someone is smoking in it.

No chance any jobs worth is inspecting the inside of my motor. I'll tell them to fook off! And there's no chance they can request your insurance details.

When I say jobsworth I mean the police.

Smoking doesn't project a good image really. If someone isn't competent enough to look after their health, then how can they be competent enough to look after the cleaning of windows?

What a ridiculous statement, if someone smokes then they're not competent enough to clean windows  ::)roll
