oops sorry for resurrecting such an old thread but felt I had to comment.

Just to confirm there is no money in carpet cleaning. Used to be ok a few years ago but everyone one is charging cheap prices and there is literally no money out there to make it work.  I barely scrap a living  :'(

Stick to the glass fellas.
yeah im sure! Like the avatar, bet there not cheap. Wink

On a serious note. There are A LOT of carpet cleaners out there charging cheap cheap prices. Stupidly so imho as they can get more if they just ask for it.  But they have an employees mind set and  can't see the wood for the trees.

Its easier to set up too now a days. Easier to find information, more and better suppliers that provide training (not that most ever bother with training), forums like these that pretty much teach the new comer most things. Then they just go on facebook and advertise for free offering cheap price carpet cleaning.

Personally I think it ruins the industry.

Anyway, there's my rant for this morning.

100% agree. It's mad. As I said, I remember paying about £50 for a lounge 20 years ago.

I think window cleaning is going the same way. Social media is breaking down the barriers between customers  and service providers, more and more people have entered the window cleaning game thinking they are going to be wealthy. What they don't realise i's it takes years to build up rounds that are stable let alone profitable.

I do carpets, in fact I do a bit of everything pressure washing, gutters, fsg etc.

Anyway with carpets I struggle to see how it beats window cleaning. Certainly at the prices in my area which would be something like 40 first room 3 carpets for 100 etc. I don't think that's bad money but you really need to be getting £100 plus jobs to make it worth while. I can clean 1 room in about an hour or slightly less including unloading and packing up a portable but you have to get there and onto the next job, it's unlikely to be compact!. If I did 3 rooms at 100 then I would expect to be there no longer than 2 hours max that's when it starts to pay.

But the equipment costs more to buy and maintain, it's a constant marketting effort needed.

This is true. I'm into year 2 full time now and my round isn't full and it isn't stable., im dropping an losing the odd customer everyweek due to issues from bad payers, access, underpriced, skipping cleans eyc etc. Also when I factor in all the costs and advertising I have done it isn't very profitable either yet. Another year before I feel comfortable with it i think.

Keep going. You will get there. You have to really want to make it work. Just be consistent, competitive, and polite.
