ONE IN EIGHT Britons have been caught romping by their window cleaner – and one red-faced woman was caught doing naked yoga by her window washer.

A poll of 1,000 Brits found that 13 per cent of those quizzed confessed to being caught in the act as they had their windows washed.

Just like the 1974 movie Confessions of a Window Cleaner, starring Robin Askwith as window cleaner Timothy Lea, Britons admitted that they were occasionally caught out by the window washer.

The poll for online blind retailer Directblinds.co.uk found that 61 per cent admitted being caught out unexpectedly by their window cleaner, either in their underwear as they got changed, on the lavatory, just out of the shower or having sex.

The top five most common sights window cleaners saw were:

1 - In underwear - 28 per cent

2 - Just out of the shower, in a towel - 19 per cent

3 - On the lavatory - 14 per cent

4 - Having sex - 13 per cent

5 - Napping - 12 per cent

Those caught napping said they were only woken when the window cleaner rang the bell for payment.

The poll also found that 27 per cent of those caught in a compromising position ”ran off and hid”, while 25 per cent said they were 'so mortified' they swapped window cleaners.

A total of 33 per cent said they were caught out after forgetting to close the blind or curtain - and 13 per cent said they had got carried away with what they were doing and forgotten the window cleaner was coming.

The survey found that 40 per cent of those polled said their window cleaner had just 'laughed it off', with the same number 'pretending not to notice' - although 18 per cent of window cleaners were left embarrassed and 14 per cent shocked, the poll found.

Window cleaners revealed their own horror stories - with one coming face-to-face with a naked woman doing yoga in her bedroom.

Christopher Dawber, 63, has been a window cleaner for thirty years in County Durham - and writes for Window Cleaning Magazine.

He said today: "I once accidentally caught a young woman completely naked on her bed doing yoga.

"When she saw me she screamed and ran out of the room. She spent the next few minutes trying to avoid me as I popped up at each window.

"I could see her head poking around the door frames trying to guess where I would pop up next.

”I still cleaned her windows afterwards and hopefully she has learnt to tell the story and laugh about it - I'm not sure who was more embarrassed her or me.”

Ken Simpson from Greater Manchester, who has been running his own window cleaning business for 12 years, said: "I've been in the window cleaning business for 17 years now, and over the years I've seen quite a few sights through the windows!

"Its obvious that most people tend to forget that we are coming, and it's common for us to see things that they would probably wish they'd tidied away.

"I've seen hundreds of sex toys left lying around over the years, and there's always a few who's houses could do with a good clean.

"Pets are another obstacle - one dog got so excited, that it came crashing through the window after jumping up against it repeatedly for around 10 minutes.”

Claire Cunningham, 31, of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, said she was caught in the act with her boyfriend last year.

She said: "My boyfriend and I had planned a romantic afternoon off and had both finished work early and got into bed.

"My boyfriend was naked and I was just stripping off when we saw a face at the window - we couldn't believe it.

"My boyfriend jumped up and closed the blinds and we never used the window cleaner again."

David Roebuck, of Direct Blinds, said: "Window cleaners spend their days looking through windows, so we knew they must have some funny stories to share.

"We were interested to see that almost a third of people have been caught in an embarrassing situation because they forgot to close their blinds or curtains, so we hope they learnt their lesson.”

The other day picked up a new customer, i was recommended by my client 2 doors up. Went and priced it uo and txt the potential new client. She agreed price (she was at work) and sent a text apologising for what i may see in her bedroom.
I text back explaining the days of being worried about what we may see are now over, she seemed quite relieved to know i clean from ground floor
