How many of you guys had teachers telling you that you will end up a window cleaner when your older? 2 seperate teachers said to me that if i didnt buck my ideas up at school id end up a milkman or a window cleaner! well im guessing those teachers didnt consider that wfp would be invented and be able to double there salary with ease for less hours and zero training :-), now if i was at school and a teacher said ill end up a window cleaner im not sure id take it as such an insult than what i did when i was younger.
Wfp has beaten the negative poor education  saying that was around for years "you will end up a window cleaner", its not so looked down upon anymore.

Here's to all the down lookers.....

Most still do think it's a dead end job with no prospects and/or as stop gap until you get a real job.
For manly that fail that all it is too  ;D ;D

It was 'sweeping streets' when I was a kid.

I joined the army and did indeed do a heck of a lot of sweeping streets to be honest.

They were spot on I guess.

I have two sisters, both are were academically minded when they were at school. I wasn't, the thought of learning and revision just repulsed me. I would have done well at school if things at home had been different but they weren't and thats that. So I got a decent number of qualifications but never wanted to apply myself in a career sense, meanwhile one sister went to uni and the other went to nursing college, where eventually she became a midwife.

Once when my brother-in-law was going through a fairly high phase of foreign travel in his work (I think he had to go abroad three times in one year, to S. Africa, USA and some other place) my mother said 'I bet you wished you'd done well at school now don't you'. She was a snob and didn't know how to encourage people. Now she'd actually be quite proud of where my business is I think if she were still alive.

Mick, your teachers were probably on more than you think and may well now be sunning up on some far away beach on some big fat pension and.... Maybe, just maybe thinking of you!  ;D

Yes but they don't get to use an extendable pole with a brush on top that squirts water. lol.

I reckon in the old days, when I was young, being a teacher was a good job and window cleaning was not as lucrative as it is today.
Nowadays, I can only imagine that teaching is very stressful and much less rewarding with massive amounts of paperwork, red tape, government intervention, ofsted targets and reports, teaching assistants blah blah etc etc.
And window cleaning is...shall we say more lucrative, with much less stress.
Mick, if cleaning doesn't work you can always do a teaching course and teach English as a foreign language abroad.  ;D

I like the time off at least 10 weeks and maybe 20 weeks off next year sod being a teacher stuck in class room full of kids that want to knife you

Outside London teachers get between £22,000 and £32,000 a year. This is "yer bog standard teacher".

Upper levels - department heads/deputy heads/leading practitioners work in bands £35K to £38K with some specialist types spanning the gap between  department heads/deputy heads/ troubleshooters/headteachers getting  £38 - £58K.

Heads get £43K to £107K depending on the type and size of school.

So a good self employed windy probably gets what? £40K turnover but not 12 weeks paid holiday or a good pension. So yes about the same as a mainstream teacher at the upper end.
It's a game of three halves!
