Which Slx for everyday use?
« on: August 10, 2016, 09:28:58 pm »
Hi all ,

I'm currently using a clx 27 for everyday use but I only fully extend it a couple of times . So I'm thinking of getting an Slx , but which one?
Slx 18 , 22 or 25.....
Thanks 👍

I've got extreme 18 , slx22 ,slx 25-35 and would say the slx 22 is the best all rounder

After using slx 25 for 18 months I treated myself to slx 22 and much prefer it because of the shorter collapsed length. Slx 25 does still get some use.

I'd get which ever one is going to give the reach to cover all your work e.g. the 30 ft ( unless you mean you are happy to continue to use the clx 27 fully extended for those couple of times but imo that would defeat the point ). If the extra weight / closed length was an issue you could always remove a couple of sections and buy the relevant end cap.

I was actually thinking of using the clx 27 for the few jobs and have a smaller , lighter pole to use everyday

+1

If you don't do much awkward stuff fully extended then just take some sections off and put them back on if/when needed.
This will save you having to buy different length poles if money is tight.

I just think you'll  end up  wishing you'd bought  a 30. You're  gonna hate having to go back to the clx even for just a few higher jobs and will notice its weight and how whippy it is.

You don't want to be using a 30ft SLX for everyday work, get yourself a SLX22 and keep the CLX 27 for the higher stuff,
If your getting a lot of work requiring a 30ft pole then An Xtreme is the only option as the SLX is horrible at that height.

Like Sean says, If you only need it a couple of times keep your CLX27 for these jobs, SLX30 is too big and heavy for an every day pole, go for the SLX22.

All I'm saying is add / remove a couple  of sections when needed. Why would you want to use a heavier and whippy pole for higher work ? That's where carbon fiber makes the difference.

I have an smax 40 with a 5 ft extension, I don't  use it as a 45 all day, I just add the bottom 4 sections when needed.

Sorry fellas but this'll is absolute bull. All 5 of us use SLX30's all day every day. We don't possess anything shorter. Easy to handle, light enough to use continually for 8 hours daily and fit in a small van no problem.

Also I use mine fully extended on a regular basis for far reach windows (not height)  and it's easy to handle.

Well if that works for you fair enough,  but because others have a different opinion to yours doesn't mean it's bull. I use the SLX18 all day every day because it works for me.  Not for a minute would I say it would be suitable for anyone else's round tho, which is why I recommended the 22' which is still 500 grammes lighter than the 30'.

That's what I use (SLX30) and often I go for weeks on end with 2 sections removed but when I need the extra length, I add sections 4 or 4 and 5.

It's so simple it's laughable.

The end caps cost pennies.

Just for arguments sake it is bull because you say it's too big and heavy as an everyday pole.

I own an SLX30 and it is a horrible pole at that height, is only slightly better than the CLX27, that doesn't mean it wont do the job
I used a 30ft fibreglass and never had any problems. (roll eyes )

You probably don't mind the slx 30 because you haven't tried anything shorter(or maybe you have?)

My everyday pole was always a slx25 till I tried the extreme 22  it's shorter collapsed length make them easier to use given the the choice the 22 is what I always reach for  I have a slx 39 and extreme 47 I wouldn't want to break them down to use at lower height all the time.

Get the right pole for the work you need if you work by yourself for yourself buy the best of course a 30 or 35 will cover all your work but  different pole for different height will be quicker and more comftable.

Totally agree KS, my everyday pole is a SLX18 and would recommend the 22ft for the same reason.
