Hi, recently I was asked to give a quote for an after builders cleaning. Massive job, with stickers, glue, cement, dust and plaster on the windows. The problem is they did want scratches on the glass and we're not favouring us using scrapper ' s.  Has anyone else experienced similar problems,  with after builders cleaning and how did they overcome them ?

Welcome to the forum Gavin, to be honest I avoid them as do most shiners in my area judging by the amount of inquiries I
get from builders looking for somebody to do them.
Iv only ever done a couple and did need a scraper but there are products  that remove concrete and other stuff from glass
which might be worth looking at. google concrete remover.
Remember chances are there will be scratches already on the glass and you may get blamed for them your fault or not,
make sure your insurance covers replacing the glass as some policies don't.

 Hi Gavin, I've done some builders cleans in the past, but not anymore, because they are a PITA, they take a lot
 longer to do then maintenance cleans, you can double, triple the price, and its still not enough, if you do get blamed
 for any scratch's, the job then ends up costing you a lot more then you would have made on the job.
 Thats why a lot of shiners give them a wide birth.

I don't bother with them any more.
You will usually find that MASTIC MAN has been there before you.
Last one I did some numpty had sealed all the internal glazed Georgian door glazing with clear mastic  and managed to smear it all over the glass on both sides.
They ALWAYS take longer than you think they will!

Same as above posts mate.
I got one a while ago and i thought quids in.  Big mistake, it was such a dog of a job to do and took longer than expected and proving u didnt scratch any windows etc.
That was the first and last time, i avoid them like the plague now. Its just not worth the hassle.

From the comments above , sounds like a PITA . So if you still want to do them , double your price , chances are there's not many windys that want the job

If you take these sorts of jobs on to cover your own arse get the owner of the property to sign a waiver and check every bit of glass beforehand too as some are just looking for a fall guy (the window cleaner) to take the blame for other trades cock-up’s. Also make sure you are covered for property being worked upon including products/chems.

Personally I think builders cleaners are more hassle than they are worth so I avoid them like the plague.

I'm aware there are firms that specialise in builder cleans that do very well out of it all the same.
