Hi all,

Ok, I used to be a window cleaner/gutter cleaner approx 20 year ago, gave it up due to knee and back problems(couldn't get up the ladder), i used the bucket and ladder method and trowel and bucket for gutters.
As my kids have grown up and my health is better than ever i am now looking to start anew in windows and gutters. I am on here looking for advice on equipment. I would like to use a water fed pole system for windows, i have approx 2 grand to spend on all equipment after licencing, insurance ads etc.  Is the portable water fed pole system any good? i have seen guys around my area use these and some use the tank in the van system.
Also I've seen a gutter vac on ebay for around £700, has anybody used these for gutters? are they any good? can anyone on here recommend any makes models etc, i want to try and get both for under 2 grand. If i could maybe even get a used tank i have a 7 seater that i can modify to hold this as i don't want the expense of a van.
Any help would be appreciated.

If u have a van/car, then I wouldn't bother with a trolley set up, instead I would be more inclined to buy,

Tds metre to see how good or bad ur water is
Tank
Pump
Di bottle - will also need resin to go Init
Hose and reel
Pole and brush

Most bits will be on eBay

This is the bare minimum u will need, but u will be better suited to van a vehicle set up rather than trolley

IMO

Hi Jenson,

Adding to what Matt said with regards to poles get yourself a good carbon fibre pole, we use Gardiner SLX poles ourselves (as do a lot on here) and they are excellent poles(I haven't used other makes so can't comment on those). Gutter vacs, well I'm a bit biased but if you go for carbon fibre poles make sure you get 100% carbon fibre as it is much more rigid than a carbon/fibreglass mix.

Personally I would focus on one or the other to begin with.

This would depend on the demand for those services in your area.  2 grand isn't much to spend on equipment for both services IMHO.

If you are going to vacuum clear gutters then you also need video to ensure that you have done the job properly. You also need to consider a power source for your vacuum cleaner. You will also need to be able to climb a ladder as not all jobs can be totally done with a vacuum cleaner only.

Smurf is resident gutter cleaning expert. You will find a wealth on info on here, so do a search on here for his gutter related posts.

Have a word with one of the dealers such as GrippaTank, even though they will be more expensive than a DIY setup
you will at least end up with something that will suit your needs for many years and you might get a bit of training thrown in
on the deal.
As has already been stated I would put the whole budget into water fed pole for now and see how that goes before investing
in other equipment.

Dont think he's gonna get far with £2000 if he's gonna go to the big boys

First of all ye need a tds meter to check water quality. Im guessing yiu are in scotland as you mentioned licensing. Once ye figure water quality then we can offer advice on system.

Im 36ppm around my area so twin di i use.

Ignore gutter vac for time being.
