do we all have them
« on: June 27, 2016, 11:57:15 pm »
Dont kno if trying to just convinve myself, but i think we all must have one and that its not just me!
That one customer!
I have this old customer (age) who ive been cleaning windows for, for over 10 yrs. A lovely old dear whos more like a nanna than a customer. Every month a drink and something to eat (in winter always puts a drop of whiskey in coffee). Buys a small gift when its birthday/anniversary. When traditional working, allowed me to keep equipment n ladders at hers over night for wks when my car died. Etc, etc.
Turned up today and she wanted gutters cleanin as she does every 2yrs. After i sorted them out, she tells me that altho its only £20 she thinks iv done a great job and pays £30. (Now she forgot that in past i charged her a discounted rate of 25 per side facing of house, so 50 for both sides.) I didnt have heart to tell her i now charge £35 per side (pending size of house n area etc etc) and that her price was yrs old. So i gladly accept and nod appropriately.
Lol, shes the only cusyomer who i allow to get away with that. But it cant just be me who has a custy like this?

You have a customer who feeds you makes you drinks and buys you gifts ,if that was my customer I would be doing the job at a discount price because of what she did for me

Lol thats the general jist mate.
Hers is discounted like i mentioned in post and even gets her windows done free.
Just saying we all must have a customer like this. But also, when it is discounted, they still think the price is alot.

I've had a few of these over the years. I had one that I did for a couple of years many years ago. The price didn't change over the two years she was on my books. However, after I'd done them a handful of times she began to 'forget' each time I went how much they were. But she never tried to pay me more it was always less. I would have to explain every time and she would argue and tell me I was charging her too much and putting them up every time I  went and suchlike. But each time I went it got less and less until in the end she was halving the amount. So in the end I asked her if she had a calendar. When she replied that she had, I got her to write it on her calendar in front of me. So the next time I went and she started arguing about the price, I said, "you wrote it on your calendar."  She never 'forgot' the price after that. She started messing me around in other ways instead. So I just took her off my books.

I had the exact same thing happen to me last year. Quite spooky really! But I just took a deep breath, and said " mother you're paying the going rate." No room for charity when working at height.!

Some old folk do suffer from dementia you know too. It's when they try to pay you more than once 5 mins later it's a bit of a give away  ;D

I don't mind the dementia ones trying to pay me twice, it's when they try to pay you but can't remember where the keys are, and you're outside waiting to be paid. Very time consuming, when you're pushed for time...

Yep. Had that too.
I hate it when they give you their purse and say, 'take it out of there'.
The old lady on my round that happened to was real sweet. Often tried to pay me more than once. One of her neighbors (another one of my customers) used to help care for her and regularly used to take her to collect her pension  and do a bit of shopping. Then one day the old lady decided to change the place where she kept her money indoors and forgot where she put it. Her family thought the helpful neighbor had helped herself and caused a nasty scene.  It was a real shame because she had done so much for her elderly neighbor.

I had/ still have an old dear who now i have to txt grand daughter to let her kno im coming. She pays me on  line as well. Known them both for yrs but the ild dear had a gardener who saw she was starting to loose plot a bit and took her to hole in wall and draw out close to 500. Needless to say police are involved once the family had figured out what happened

And this is one reason why we dislike doing residential insides.

Yeah, I hate having to wait for the second payment.

It doesn't seem right a customer buying you a present for an anniversary. Can you imagine forgetting your anniversary and coming home from work with a gift from a customer?
