Here are just a few choices to pick from in no specific order

tap on a belt
tap without a belt
univalve
pinch hose method

Some use a JG tap at top of the pole just before the brush. My preference is the Uni-Valve. Beauty of either of these is no excess hose at your feet whilst working. The univalve costs more but will be more economical with your water.

I use a stiff kind of pole hose (Gardener's hot water hose at present) and I just 'bend the hose', you know, fold it over and the water stops.  I release it and the water starts.

It means working with an external pole hose, and this has a lot of advantages too. 

Now you'll probably go for the more complex options first, but once you tire of them, try the external pole hose and just bend it.  It's simple and once you've 'got the knack', it's dead simple. 

I don't bother with all the gadgets that turn the water off at the pole - I've tried them all just about - and I've found that the way I do it works best for me.

That means your hand is tied though.

buy a uni valve.its by far the easiest, most convenient way of turning your water on and off.love it.great product.

I liked the idea of not dragging all that grit up the inside of the pole so I tried to work with an external pole hose, but it didn't work for me. Lasted all of five minutes. Made the pole feel heavier and more awkward to manage. And the hose got caught on more objects. However, all my work is residential, so perhaps that's why.
For me, going tubeless with my poles and fitting univalves in both was the best thing I've done in a long time. I used a tubeless kit for the first one and did the second DIY. Both work fine.

Pole hose on the oustide and just kink the hose works well for me too.

Why does the pole hose have to be external to kink it off. My hose is internal and I kink it where it comes out at the bottom of the pole.

personally I couldn't think of a worse way to manage water on and off than this but each to their own.
I use a tap on a holster, well the hose actually sits in the holster with the tap sitting about a foot or so in front to eliminate the
possibility of a wet leg.
I might give the uni valve a go and keep the tap as a back up for situations where it might be awkward to reach the
bottom of the pole.

You don't want to be returning to the van part-way through a job; you want to be cleaning windows.

You lay your hose out; I start from the furthest away point and just keep on cleaning till I'm finished.

I then unclip the pole hose from the reel hose, reel in, pack up and sod off.

So you use a  stop valve on the end of your hose that stops the water when the pole hose is unclipped, don't see why you
needed to point out the rest though. lol.

No, when it's kinked shove it up the pole. I mean the end cap, this keeps the kink in place  and your hands free to receive payment/coffee etc.

Like tosh mentioned there are more advantages with running the pole hose on the outside of the pole not just kinking the hose to turn the water on/off

Adding/taking off pole extensions is a breeze
Using the pole for other uses without any pole hose getting in the way.
Just to mention two without having the need buy other gadgets that will eventually fall apart/ fail

I use a    Micro irrigation  Tap at the top of the t
pole after the Flexi goose neck at you will need is the tap off e bay and a smaller diameter hose to insert into the pole hose so the tap will fit
