Van insurance renewal quote horror.
« on: June 07, 2016, 05:04:34 pm »
I had a spot of bad luck last year with two fault accidents where I hit parked cars. One where I had to swerve to avoid a speeding car racing me to a parking space and the other hastily reversing to allow an angry woman to get her car out of a space and scraping the side of a badly parked van ( none of this really matters I know but I'm always honest and take responsibility - could have gotten away without anyone seeing in both cases )
So that has resulted in a total of 4 ( 3 own fault ) in last 5 years.
Gladiator just sent me my renewal quote up from £450 for the last year to £2624.50  :o :o :o :'( :'( :'(
Any advice other than go to specsavers and be more careful in future ? what insurers would people recommend in my situation ?

Alexander Swan.
Can't rate them highly enough.
Highly professional, tailored policies for window cleaners, with courtesy vehicles WITH REACH & WASH SYSTEMS installed.

This is what it costs me for a 2009 VW Caddy Van with a 400 Litre Pure2o System installed:

Commercial Van Motor Insurance : £340
WFP System with Poles + Ancillaries : £150 (Insured amount £5k)
Replacement Vehicle Cover : £85
Legal Expenses Cover : £4.72
Total : £579.72

Worth every penny IMO.

And by the way, most mainstream insurers (eg admiral, aviva, etc) require you to tell them if you are carrying a water tank, otherwise your insurance is invalid.  It must actually be in the policy wording, not just told to you over the phone.

I tried A plan and Alexander Swan but Adrian Flux were about £400 cheaper than both of them fro me! Ive got a driving conviction and 1 accident on my record.

Thank you Mike, I'm going to be able to sleep a little easier tonight  ;)
Just got off the phone from them, even stating all claims and payouts in last 5 years they were less than half what Gladiator had just quoted me, still be paying twice what I am a month now but even that seems a bargain all things considered  :) :) :)

I'll keep getting other quotes as I've a couple of weeks yet but things don't seem so bad now   ;)

Not quite the same but in relation to insurance.
I just got my renewal policy through to tempt me into staying. I still have no claims and my current policy obviously covers a water tank inside van plus a courtesy car etc etc.
So in their wisdom they sent me a new policy where not allowed a water tank and no courtesy cover. They were  suprised when i told them it was a silly renewal and no i dont want it!

I renewed my cover last year for a 05 Renault Trafic with 650ltr tank, with replacement vehicle regardless of fault. Alexander Swan quoted £1200, I got it through A-Plan at £720.

Got a new Transporter T32 LWB being delivered on Friday, 850ltr tank. Got a quote from Adrian Flux at £1150, no replacement vehicle. A-plan with replacement vehicle regardless of fault £803.

They're very good to deal with as well.
