I've not climbed off the top yet so I've not tried to recreate their problem.  In other uses, though, it's utterly magic.  One of our franchisees has used it with the platform (to do a conny roof) and raved about it.  I've only used it without the platform - out of stock - and it's the most stable step ladder I've been on (though I saw a chap trimming a tree this very morning off a ladder with a base about four feet wide which I guess might be even better).

The only place I need to step off the top half is above an alley with a wall so if it does step out there'll be no drama.  I'll be using it like that in a month or so and I'll report back.

Hi Robert

Hope you don't mind me chipping in, we've used the 3-rung Little Giant for years having tried alternatives such as Telescopic etc, and can safely say they have and continue to be superb. Very versatile, sturdy and durable, we tend to use them in the extension format but sometimes as an A Frame, they are reasonably heavy which in turn provides a solid footing, most are still going strong after 5+ years but some have failed I.e broken hinge around this time.

I have not experienced the situation shown in the video although I can see how it can occur given enough leverage,.

Here they are.  Seven years ago and the design of the hinge has changed (the flex on this one is pretty alarming) but I suspect there's a problem with any flex at all when you go above a pivot point.  The new one's very solid but as it's a joint it must move slightly so I'm interested to see how it goes.

There's nothing like stating the obvious. An unconventional, hinged ladder is a liability.

something doesn't add up. Ladder testing with 6" of snow on the ground.

3.5 metre trade ladders(2 section) ,an a 8ft single pointer and a little step stool is what i use.

i split the ladder sections for getting over the odd higher gate,the single pointer for leaning over to unbolt a gate and the step stool for getting ladders off roof rack or giving me that wee bit extra height when needed when reaching over large extensions.

i also use the ladders for conny roof cleaning and flat roofs on the odd occasion.i have a stand off if i have to lean the ladders on the corner of a property for example when cleaning an awkward access conny roof.

all in all i only take the ladders off maybe 2 or 3 times a week usually as most work is easy access or texted the night before.

At 15kgs I find it heavy (cumbersome) to carry, so at 17kgs I would find the Little Giant even more so. The Screwfix one is very sturdy though.

It will straddle most locked gates, (the reason why I bought it), although it zaps my strength lifting it across.

Actually, is the ladder the wrong way round? Shouldn't he be climbing the other side?
