Which will keep water hottest?
« on: March 26, 2016, 06:40:57 pm »
Further to my previous posts, I think I've now narrowed down my choices for hot water hose to these two:

https://www.grippatank.co.uk/thermobore-100m-reinforced-hose-6mm-id

http://gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/all-products/pump-hose/hoses/minibore-trade-reinforced-hose-8mm-id-13-5mm-od.html

These are the thickest hoses I can fit on my Pure Freedom reel for 100 metres.

So the question is, bearing in mind the body of water in the hose and the hose wall thicknesses which will keep the water the hottest?

Opinions please?

The question is I suppose how hot you want the water coming out of the brush head?
Can I ask what heater are you using?

I use 100m of standard mircrobore and can get over 50 odd degrees at the brush head if I want from the fastar 8l lpg water heater I use. Will go up to 75 degrees before the heat sensor cuts the heater off.

I use a Pure Freedom 5KW diesel heater.

On max the temperature fluctuates between around 53c and 65c.

I can't make it run any hotter even by recirculating the water into the tank to raise the ambient temperature of the water in the tank, the heater just adjusts it's output to keep the temperature between these parameters.

I'm happy with the temperature at the brush up to around 40 metres, but then it starts to cool down too much, especially on chilly days.

This means it's all about the hose.

There are more Fastar 8L LPG water heaters on ebay at varying prices & delivery costs but I bought mine through this supplier. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stainless-New-8L-Gas-LPG-Propane-Tankless-Instant-Hot-Water-Heater-Boiler-/291137754549?hash=item43c92995b5:g:CREAAOSwo6lWOIZs

That fastar 8L LPG I use is rated upto 16kw not 5kw or 9kw like webasto type water heaters. Hence why is more efficient for on demand use than any type of diesel fired water heaters adapted for wfp use currently available.

Yes it has a 20 min cut out but will reset when you turn the water off at the pole so I've never found it a problem myself.

My L10 is a very good gas heater.its virtually boiling hot on anything but min settings.great for add ons.on min it's still warm at brush head no matter what hose u use.im very happy with it.

It cost me £300 from corwoods including VAT and delivery and gas regulator.i don't have any pressure problems either as the large capacity easily handles a bit of back up pressure.
price higher/work harder!

Jonny Sanderson has a awesome "insulated" hot tank within a tank .

I believe this is the best hot system idea within reason of coatings .

Heats his tank up to 30 degrees and stays about 24+ degrees .
Think it cost him  a lot with heating element and tanks delivered to Scotland .
But a great Buy

That's what I'm concidering getting, similar tank to Johnny just a 500 though I didn't think there too costly very neat looking

Just looking into pros and cons
but after having upgrade price for my Wabasto heater to upgrade to a second person I think it's a no brainier really the insulated tank and Imersion heater seems the best option comes in a lot more cost effective and especially with ongoing running costs
Just not sure if the difference in heat whilst working I'll cope with as Wabasto runs quiet hot

Myself I could not justify spending silly amounts of money on a custom built insulated emersion heated van tank when a chepo hot water heater used on demand does me just fine. Each to their own I suppose.

Thanks for your replies.

I use a 5KW diesel heater and do not want to switch back to an LPG heater.

I'm looking for opinions on the two hoses that I mentioned in the original post please.

I could upgrade to a 9KW diesel heater as a last resort but I want to try the upgraded hose option first.

Insulating my tank won't really help as the water is heated after the tank.

My tank is bolted in my van and even if I insulated it (which would be difficult), this would only help to raise the ambient temperature of the water in the tank before it gets to my heater.
