CLX pole question.... (again - sorry!)
« on: March 08, 2016, 12:30:16 pm »
Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying a CLX 27 pole today - was just wondering whether this would be long enough to clean your average velux windows, or will I need an extension too?

Thanks in advance  8)

It will but only just and I'm 6ft 3", I found it fairly uncomfortable, pole was at head height so got an extension.  Very whippy though with an extension and hard to control in any wind, but has worked for me for last 2 yes. I think the extension is pretty cheap so I'd say go for it. I've just bought an six 30, which is supposed to have the same reach as a clx27 with an extension. Only used it once so jury's out.

Get an SLX well worth the extra money it'll last longer as well.

The problem with a clx is they sag so often drag on the roof a slx is better I have both and the clx is defo more floppy.I would however reach velux in a ground floor roof if the roof has a good pitch .

If you use one of the long plastic goosenecks from Gardiners the pole will be less likely to drag on the roof when it sags. However I agree with the other posters and would suggest a better quality pole eg. SLX.

My CLX lasted a lot longer than the SLX I'm using at present will, that said I still wouldn't say one is better than the other at lasting as I have not tested enough of each to come to a sensible conclusion.
As to the question, a 27 foot pole will not be long enough to reach most 2 story properties with Velux  windows your going to need a 35ft plus and even the SLX can be whippy at that length.
It will reach most chalet bungalow's without a problem if that's what you need it for.

Not really. On a bungalow yes.

You need something over 40 foot really.

just depends what you mean when you say "average velux windows".most of mine are on single storey extensions and i can reach them easily with my xtreme 25.however i also clean some large ones on 2 storey roofs and i have to use an xtreme 47.these are well paid jobs though so still worth getting 2 poles out.

a CLX  is ok for a domestic pole but it does bend a lot esp if your trying to clean velux windows fully extended.i reckon you ll struggle to stop the pole catching on the gutters/edges of the roof.they are a breeze with a better quality pole though like an xtreme.
price higher/work harder!

My CLX would clean the Dormers in Daves photo but NOT the roof Velux

Glad it wasn't just me thinking that. Everyone else here seems to know what an average one is.............
