SLX 18 OR CLX 18
« on: February 23, 2016, 09:38:11 pm »
I have used an 18ft clx and found it very good is there much to be gained from getting the slx version with it only being 18 foot the price difference is quite a bit.

I reckon there not much to be gained and its not worth it. To put that in perspective Gardiners also do a CLX 4foot.  Would you pay and extra £50 for a SLX 4 ? I don't think so.

An SLX lasts  at least twice as long.

A 50 foot fibre glass pole will last a long time of you only use it at 18 foot. You'll only ever need to replace the top sections  ;D

My everyday pole is the SLX 18 and I can thoroughly recommend it.  I used to use a CLX 18 mk2 but I made the switch to the SLX because I didn't like the whippy characteristics of the CLX when fully extended. Don't get me wrong, it's a very good pole. However, the SLX, to me anyway, is worlds apart from the CLX. It's like the Rolls Royce of all the poles I've used. Extremely smooth to operate and very nice to work with fully extended. Well worth the extra dosh in my book.

My SLX everyday poles are still going strong after 5 and 7 years use. Defo worth the extra.

I'm still deliberating whether to go for even lighter and more rigid with an extreme 3 now they're  "clamp anywhere" telescopic.
It's a game of three halves!

My CLX's have been going for 5 years and have now turned black so they look like slx's. I havn't even got the new smart clamps on mine  ;D  But the point of the SLX is not its longevity, its its slightly lighter weight and stiffness. And if any of that is a problem at 18 foot well i'm out of words..............

do a lot of you guys not have connys/extensions that you need to reach over to clean the windows above?3 storey windows?skylights?i dont know how you manage to pole most of your work with an 18 ft pole.minimum i use is a 22ft SLX and even that comes up short on lots of work.so i usually use an xtreme x3(25ft)for most work.
price higher/work harder!

I have an employee who uses the SLX22 and I also have him use the SLX30 for a couple of jobs

I have an SLX 25 which gets used for one or two jobs where I need a bit more height but it doesn't warrant me using it all the time. It too is a very nice pole and on occasion I have carried on using it without noticing the extra weight over the 18 too much. I can see why some use it as an every day pole.

I've used an SLX25 since the day I started after info gained on this forum, I've used the same pole for 2 years doing every clean with it, soffit, fascia, gutters, conservatories, even cars  ;D
it's still going strong with nothing other than one gooseneck being replaced. I have an SLX 35 Extreme too but it pretty much stays in the garage until really called for.
Get it.

I have a clx27...I have removed some sections and use as a 18ft...most windows on standard houses
arenot even that high...light as feather..cant see anything to gain by paying the extra unless you are
going to buy a longer pole for over conservatories etc.

I can see the advantage of a slx25 over a clx27...my clx27 can be quite heavy on the horizontal
I have to hold the pole with both hands which is a nuisance ;D

I'm with dazmond on this - an 18' is OK 80/90% of the time on domestic and a 22' is OK 95% of the time.
It's a game of three halves!

I must have rubber  extendable arms or something
Most of the conservatories I clean are on standard Redrow  4 bed detached
Easy peasy with an Slx 18

I couldn't be bothered swapping poles or adding sections here and there . When your on a good run of compact domestics you don't want to break stride ' I don't even stop to ticket or collect until the van needs moving . That's why we both use a slx 25 all day every day . It hits every 3 story and comfortably over deep connys . And i can't see how some people think it's too heavy all day long .
