70-80 PSI Tap Pressure

380-420 PPM Input
010-009 PPM Output
2-3 week old pre filters
Twin DI - Readind 000 into holding tank.

Its not even doing 400L in a 24 period. I know the cold can effect it but i think the membranes are shot. I estimate they are between 1 and 2 years old. Its a very very slow dribble!

Can you back flush these ones? Or is it just the 40/40

We had one of these fitted to the waste replacing the restrictor valve the r/o came with.

You need to ask RoMan to supply one for a 450gpd 3 membrane r/o. Open the tap and the r/o will flush.

I recommend you change membranes and use Fiberdyne prefilter (with sediment if needed) from Gardiners.  A 10" will remove the chlorine from 38,000 liters of water. That will give you about 10000 liters of pure at a 3 to 1 waste/pure rato.

A carbon block filter which has completed it service life will let chlorine past it into your membranes. Chlorine destroys membranes.

I thought you sent water through the membranes in the opposite direction (back flush) ?

Its manual as you have to open the tap and then most of the water going through your r/o goes to waste.

In the normal process water is forced through the membranes under pressure as you restrict the waste. Mostly what happens is during the normal purifying routine the minerals removed in filtering get flushed away in the waste almost immediately.
A good flush helps to get rid of anything remaining.

Those who have hard water need to flush more often. TBH our water is 'soft' at 125ppm  and I flush occasionally, but its not regular. Membrane is over 3 years old now and still performing as well as it did when I first put it in - rejection rate 2ppm.

I feel for the guys in hard water areas, especially those areas where their is a lot of limescale in the water. I does clog up membranes pretty fast.
I wonder if a water softener is a good investment or is it just added agro?

As far as i know Ian (window washers) went down this route several years ago and its proved to be a waste of time.

I was told by the supplier the RO membranes have a 12 - 18 month service life. He was shocked to see they were still working.

24 hours to produce 350L from a 450GPD at 80psi Not good !
