Its not only VERY slow, the results would be terrible & it'd be downright dangerous in many places. Even with GPS and sonar range finders it would be near impossible to automate - you'd have to manually teach the drones the process for each building which would take days of manual control.

And with batteries only lasting 20 mins at a time you'd need a van full of expensive & volatile li-po's to keep your swarm flying all day. Completely mental idea that will not work with the current state of technology.

I laughed  when I first saw the pole system in 1998, I had bought my first by 1999. This may not work now but how long before someone perfects it?

I believe it might be possible to adapt it to work on certain specific types of job, but I can't see it being used regularly in that form.  More likely that eventually, new, tall buildings will have to be built with an automated "cradle" as part of the building regulations process.  I did see a video some time ago where a window cleaning machine was built onto a building - a bit like a mini-car wash roller system.

having a WFP brush fitted would work, I have an 8 story block to clean

The pole could rinse the the windows` first, followed by the drone which brushes the windows, then a quick rinse to finish

Whilst it seems a good idea, here is a summary in a short video from the UKCAA website on the rules for flying drones, probably most worthy of note - drones not to be flown within in 50 meters of buildings or people, cameras can break privacy laws and commercial use requires permission.

Now I know many people regard the law and the real world as two separate things, but is it worth the risk ?
And back to the original post, considering the above , how can a commercial use such as window cleaning drones be allowed to operate or is there a license ?

edit- just realised they are German, laws maybe different there, but for the UK I don't see it happening any time soon.

Surely it would still need as many people to operate them? They don't seem to clean any quicker either so I would guess the same amount of people need to work them?
