Not really had any problems since the new style clamps, clean down the poles maybe once every 5 to 6 months with dry lube spray. All things considered they do very well for the beating they get 😝

When closing the pole, just don't clamp them right at the top; clamp an inch or two down.  After a short while it'll be second nature to do this.

And don't let your poles spin at all.  Change to the new clamps if you've not already.

Wor Lass let her pole spin, which is why it ended up like yours.  I didn't let mine spin, and mine are spot on.  Both poles are the same age.

And dismantle and wash them out every-so-often, and retape them; then a light layer of ptfe spray.  It should take no longer than fifteen minutes.

I also work with external pole hose, which keeps all the muck out of the pole.

Couple of coats of lacquer from Halfords and a light spray of ptfe. Should be right as rain.

Check the shims the little pieces of curved  rectangle plastic bit like a washer they were down and also needed replacing , If you use lacquer make sure its a warm enough when applying and the sections  will probs have to go in the house overnight so the lacquer can dry thoroughly .

Pole is  max a year old i reckon. My main work is trad on shops so pole does not take a hammering. How do you know when shims need replacing. I have spares of these.

Halfords only sell paint lacquer now. On my SLX I had enough engine lacquer left to spray 2 sections. The other 2 sections I did with Halford clear lacquer. The clear lacquer didn't last even although those sections were hardly used.

I've bought some clear engine lacquer from our 'local' motor factors and will be spraying the poles soon. I will try to do this as part of my annual maintenance between Xmas and New Year, but I also have 2 cambelts to change, so weather and health permitting we will see how far we get.

Hi JSMC

Drop me an email with a couple of photos showing the wear - I can take a look and advise. Also if you let me know which pole it is I can look you up on the system and confirm how old the pole is and what wear and maintenance should be expected as the age it is.

Total waste of time this is a paint coating designed to cover whatever and not designed for anything else,

+1

I've two SLX's, both used everyday, one by me, the other by Wor Lass.  Her's is more knackered than mine because she's been lazy and abused it; she's allowed it to swivel around while cleaning  ground floor windows creating more wear and tear on the top inch of the sections.  I never did; any sign of 'swivel' and I'd tighten the pole (old clamps).

Mine's still like brand new (albeit with the new clamps); so she uses that one now.  :'(

I always tighten clamp if it spins. Clean pole hose every time pole is back in van.

Im starting to think maybe been tigjtening on areas where it has been spinning n possibly then that little bit tighter when being extended etc.
