Evening chaps,

I have a problem with my pump, the pressure switch is not kicking in and the pressure is just building and building so I'm guessing it's thd pressure switch.

But also the flow seems to have dropped aswell, just wondering if anybody would know if the two are connected?

If you are getting air in your system  this will happen.

On the two times I've had a failed pressure switch, what happened was my pump just didn't work, unless I wiggled the connection about, and then it would kick in.

A pressure switch costs about £2.50 from Maplins and even a Geordie can replace them (I'm a Geordie).

But could your problem be your flow controller?

I took the pump out and set it up in my shed tight connecter,  but it was it just pumping.

I didn't realise I could get a pressure switch in maplin ill have a look now.

Thanks tosh but I don't use a controller I tend to use just a tap but am building one of your controllers at the moment 

Just done a quick search but can't find anything on the maplin website so might go down in the next couple of days.

My pump did that and it turned out to be a tiny air hole in one off pipe s changed all pipe s and bobs your uncle it was fine

When I set it up I used different hoses so should have Been airtight, I'll look at the pressure switch first.

As someone  stated when pressure switches fail they tend not to work to pump

Could it be the pressure switch 'thingy'; the hexagonal nut on the bottom of the pump needs adjusting?

That could account for the pump not switching off, the pressure building up, and the crappy flow?

I took apart the pressure switch housing and removed the switch inside and the case was cracked and one of the spade connecter was really wobbly so I'm hoping it's that, ice ordered a new one so that should come tomorrow, I'll keep you updated.

how old is the pump?

i had this problem yesterday, low flow, pressure building.......and my earth from battery to bodywork of van , had come loose,  thats all it was,  might not be the same for you but try looking at connectors, .. the bloke in maplins will help you, ... you have to make a little adjustment with the pressure switch in maplins , to make it fit... but its easy.

Evening all,

I bought the micro switch off eBay as maplin didn't have it in stock fitted it to the pressure switch this afternoon and it's now working perfectly, I'll adjust the hex screw reduce the pressure slightly then refit everything tomorrow.

I would just cut the wire on the pressure switch I always bypass the switch as I have taken one out the box the first thing I do is cut that wire off,I've never had a problem and my pumps have always lasted years.

The only time years ago I used to get problems at all was all down to the pressure switch,constantly having to adjust it cos it played up etc,I don't know people bother having them wired up to the system like I say I've never had a problem.

But if you have no pressure switch the keeps pumping and just builds more and more pressure?

You don't need to cut the wire to by pass the Pressure switch, the relevant wire just pulls out

And if you have a controller then yes you should bypass the pressure switch, but as the OP doesn't have one then he'd be mad to not wire the pressure switch in
