Locking Non-Window Cleaning Related Posts
« on: December 05, 2015, 07:01:03 am »
Hi Everyone.

I've been repeatedly asked on here to not self-promote but to present something of value to other readers. In a sincere attempt to do so, I started a thread which I very much hoped would be of value.  HOWEVER, I've had another thread blocked because 'This is the window cleaning section. It's for stuff about window cleaning....If it keeps on happening, the originator will be blocked.'

Below are examples of other threads that are currently on the first page of the thread index and using the above rule, should be blocked because they are non-window cleaning related:

www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=1997792.0 - Gutter Vac related
www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=199809.0 Gutter Pole related
www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=199769.0 Weather related
www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=199786.0 - Website related
www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.pho?topic=199779.0 - Vehicle Maintenance related

I have read all of the above threads and none seem to be particularly window cleaning related. I do not wish for this to happen, but can we now assume that these threads will be blocked and the OP's threatened with being banned because 'This is the window cleaning section.'?

The above rule seems overbroad. Can we all get some clarity about what is acceptable and what isn't in the window cleaning section?

I am beginning to feel that this is becoming personal, which is a shame.  :-[

I have been asked by forum members to be more informative.

On this thread came the following comments: www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=198740.0
Smudger "chat about....how you've overcome a problem."
Cleanclear "Try posting a thread how to clean panels safely or something given your experience and share it, I'd be certain it wouldn't get blocked."

It appears Cleanclear that you were wrong.  There are other comments on other threads too explaining how I should share experience.

If I promote, I'm told to share experience and get my thread blocked. At the first reasonable opportunity,  I have something I feel can be of value to window cleaners who have decided to clean solar panels and that's now wrong and get my thread blocked.

Can anyone please provide a reasonable answer as to why?  ???

Then why was this and the other threads not moved? Why lock it?

Parity is more of an issue.

I doubt Tosh can move things to the general section as he isn't an admin there.  Besides, it's a forum and not a repository fo PR statements which is pretty much all you post along with adverts for subbies that need to follow your training course.

When I saw your thread I naturally assumed there would be a link somewhere and I don't even post on here that much.

So basically you are seen as someone who just uses this forum to promote links and your business.

I can't be f***ed to look but do you offer any advice on solar panel cleaning at all? Or do you just do smoke and mirrors.

This thread shouldn't be in window cleaning.

Why not email admin.

I can only think someone is sick of your self promoting posts then presses the 'report to mod button'. The other guys probably contribute to the forum hence their posts don't get locked. Many of us chat about non window cleaning subjects but if no-one complains then I guess they stay there.
Even the fact that you list all your websites at the bottom of every post is a form of advertising (although others do it too).
The links you've posted above all seem pretty window cleaning related to me.

Just had a quick look at your created threads.

Only one since November last year is not about links/promoting/course's/whining.

So there's your answer.

I agree with Solar Steve, as window cleaners we also do other jobs such as gutter cleaning, fsg cleaning and even solar panel
cleaning,
Would like to think if I got a solar panel cleaning job and needed advice I could come on to the window cleaning section and ask for it without breaking any rules as it would be related to my window cleaning business and I would be using my wfp system to do
the job.
Maybe admin had another reason for locking the thread I don't know but it does look as if its personal to me,

The mods (aswell as a high proportion of the users on here) are obviously bored of your self promoting crap Steve, in all honesty. It's just that it's now catching up with you. Sorry to be blunt but that's the way it is.
