Van Insurance With A 650 Litre Tank

Hi,
Im having problems getting insurance for a van with a 650 litre tank. A lot of companies only do up to 500. Im in Northern Ireland which probably doesn`t help. Are there any specialist companies for window cleaners?

I think Ageas is the only insurer insuring a van with a 650 liter tank. I've used different brokers over the years and it always ends up with Ageas.

Currently with A Plan.

I tried A plan but they don't cover NI :(

I was ok with an 800 & a 600 using Aviva.

Ageas do cover NI but you have to go through a broker which I'm sure if you give them a bell they will tell you which one to contact for a quote.

When I renewed with A Plan I'm sure the guy said they wouldn't do any cover over 500 ltrs I'm sure if it,I've just ask my Mrs and she said that they did make a point of asking if it was over 500.

So what if you've got a 1000 ltr but it's only half full or is that half empty?  ;D

+1 Yep it's down to the type of van and size of tank it is legal to carry within the max payload for sure.  The max payload includes the driver / plus seats (passengers), tank of fuel and tools etc you carry about in van and on roof bars not just a water tank.

If you know anything about insurance you'll know you need to abide by the insurance contract to the letter,if you have the capacity to carry a 1000 ltrs of water and your only supposed to be carrying 500 why would you want a 1000ltr tank in the van. I would be wary any chance of them getting out of paying you any money they'll take it,when I spoke to them they were probing when asking how much water I would be  carrying and after checking with the Mrs earlier they told her no more than 500ltrs. I remembered later of me thinking I have a vehicle with a bigger payload than 500ltrs and thinking it was strange they said nothing in the previous years I've been with them.

Hi NWH, Out of interest what van do you have and what is the max payload for the van.

My van for example has a max payload of 1.5 ton so I could easaly fit a 1000 ltr tank in it if I wanted to surely?

This is the ridiculous thing I have a Transporter and the payload is around the 1300-1400kg mark so well capable of the weight this was my confusion when speaking to them,like I say on talking to him it made no difference in what he told me basically they will and do insure window cleaners with WFP but only up to 500ltr tanks.

And it also depends on who you get on the phone. I had a call for one broker last year who told me I would have to modify my van to take a 650 liter tank. It means upgrading the suspension, tyres and brakes she told me. Really,  I have a Citroen Relay with a payload of 1154kgs. She wouldn't be told any different. I thanked her for her time and asked if the call was being recorded. "Yes" she said. "Good" I said, " because your boss will put you right and tell you exactly what I've told you." " Well I know what I'm talking about as I work in Insurance all day." " Ok, goodbye" and put the phone down.

Never heard from them again last year, but guess what? They want to quote me for van insurance this year.  ;D

You may want to double check as depending what transporter model you have the payload varies quite dramatically.

Got sorted with the insurance.  £325 for a vivaro, fully comprehensive with protected bonus and a 650 tank.  Happy days. Cheaper than last year.

Nice one...who did you go with broker wise and was it an Ageas policy?

No was a Northern Ireland broker. Not sure what insurance company but not that one smurf.  Will let you know when the paperwork comes through
