We feel it important to rid hard floors of all dust and grit prior to any cleaning or Restoration.   Over the years after trying countless methods we have found a long haired continental flat swiffer type mop coupled with a silicone spray to be the quickest and most efficient method.  Trials and testing have shown that other methods such as vacuum cleaners and sweeping are not only a lot slower but up to 20% less efficient plus both methods can scratch floors.

Take either a 60 or 75cm swiffer mop, invert it and spray it with a light silicone spray, allow the spray to dry for a few minutes.  Now place the swiffer on the floor at the furthest corner away from the entrance.  Then swiffer the whole floor without lifting it the dust and grit is automatically  attracted by static.  Then when you reach the entrance simply invert the swiffer again and brush the dust and grit off it outside and it is ready to go again.  It is a fast and efficient method try it

Taking Derek's advice onboard here and not trying to knock other companies products, but in fairness swiffer mop pads in combination with silicone spray is so old school and an expensive way to dust mop floors, with todays advancements in disposable dust control mop pads there are more effective disposable mop pads both in costs and results than using Swiffer pads with silicone spray. I am not going to boast about our disposable dust control mop pads but you don't need any silicone spray with them, even though its mainly hospitals and nursing homes we supply them to we have been told many times they are the best type these same facilities have ever used. these new type dust control mop pads are produced in South Korea but are converted in the Uk by a company who distribute them all across Europe, of course i can't give away any names but these same guys in the UK are cleaning up with them.

Just an observation Kevin, you state that if sweeping the floors before cleaning to remove the dust,lint,and grit, this may lead to scratching, in fairness while i agree with you dust control mop pads are more efficient but they can also scratch the floor the same as if you were sweeping them. Also as long as i have been selling dust control mop pads i have never and probably will never get an order for them from companies who carry out deep cleaning or restoration of hard floors just to share, when it comes to hospitals,nursing homes, cleanrooms,etc, its a different situation as removing dust from their floors,walls,ceilings, is a critical part of their cleaning regime, i wouldn't be getting your hopes up if you think you are going to sell many of these pads to companies who deep clean or carry out restoration work on hard floors, just to share like.

Send me one over I have a 128m2 Marble floor coming up I will try half an half with your kit and let you know the results but I am warning you I learned this trick from an old very experienced Italian stone restorer 10+years ago and have been using his method since.  I have sold 1000's of them they are not  something  new I was just passing a little nugget on to CIU members .  Incidentally I am still using my original two swiffers which are at least 10 years old and have probably now done 100,000's m2  and still going strong how are yours on longevity?  For example will one be able to do say 50m2 in one go?

Just so I get this expensive thing clear!  If I were to do a 100m2 Marble floor the cost with my method would be around 2 sprays of silicone we will call that £0.15p per spray so what would the cost of your system be?  Have a look at the links below
