At What Time Do You Generally Start Cleaning Domestics?
« on: November 20, 2015, 08:18:54 am »
As a general rule I have started cleaning domestics at around 9am (I've only been cleaning since April so this is my first winter...). I was just wondering due to the shorter days whether I ought to start cleaning earlier (say 8am). This would help to ensure I get all the cleaning in I need to (weather permitting of course). Do any of you guys do this and what sort of reaction do you get from customers?

usually 9am-10am in winter but i will start at 8am-830am some days if im cleaning a commercial job first thing.

if your planning on starting at 8am on domestics dont forget most customers will still be at home with cars on the drive, you ll probably get stuck in rush hour traffic to what?clean an extra 3 or 4 standard houses that day?

i prefer to go out when the rush has gone(ill be leaving for work shortly)and will arrive on plot at 930am and work til 4pm so take off 30 mins for lunch thats 6 hours "on the glass".thats plenty for me these days in winter. ;D

price higher/work harder!

Generally 8 am but we have several customers who require earlier.  7.30 am is the earliest for residential work

Those 4 extra jobs a day works out over £200 a week extra or nearly a grand a month extra.
defo not to be sniffed at.

I usually start a big house at around 7.30am Or a group at 7.30am.

Nothing beats being on 150£ by 9am

Earliest houses are 6:45!! We've trained a few who are generally up at that time anyway. If you have a few houses in a street start 1st house at 8 then look to see if another house is up and about earlier, next time start that house at 7:45 and so on. Before you know it you've added an extra hour or so to your day.

Usually start at 8 but got a few start at 730 . Get to know your customers then you will know who the early risers are and who works a night shift ( leave them till last if possible ).

I normally start on domestics at around 9:00-9:30, but sometimes start earlier (around 8:30) if the customers are likely to be at work so as not to disturb them.

Thanks for all your feedback. I'll find out which customers are happy for me to start at 08:00am - I'm sure some of the oldies will be OK with this. One thing I don't want to do is to disrupt people going to school/work. I know my wife wouldn't be happy with someone turning up just as she's getting the kids ready....

Living in a rural area we don't get much of a rush hour. It's far more likely that I get delayed by the cows returning to the field from milking. The cows are never in a hurry so I just switch off the engine and wait ....

It might be an idea to ask them next time your cleaning/collecting/chatting and just say ' I'm just putting feelers out to see which customers mind me cleaning from 8am? it's just as the days are getting shorter, it gives me a bit more time to get my jobs done '
I doubt many people will say no, I have a lot of customers who go to work or do school runs etc, and it's not as if I'm in their way- your not delaying them by cleaning their windows. Any new customers, just tell them you start from 8am (even if you won't be doing their house at 8am) at least they'r prepared for it them 👍
