Hi, is anyone else having problems with the standard all seasons hose from gardiner, now that the temperature has dropped? I'm beginning to get a bit fed up with it kinking each time I coil it back up. Do gardiner have a better alternative? You'd think they'd have a decent hose to compliment how good their poles are. If there isn't a better alternative, let's hope they're in the process of sorting one!

The best hose you'll get is the red one from the people that sell the aqua adapter,it's similar to genuine hot hose. I use hot water and it doesn't kink even in summer,it's only just stated to kink 3 years later on the same pole.

Blue Hose from www.ex-ceedinnovation.co.uk is top quality , Gardiners all season hose is the only bad thing Gardiners sell .

i found the all season pole hose fine but now im using hot water ive switched to exceed blue hose.its fantastic IMO.

they are crap mate,,i never knew how bad they where till someone told me,,,i was to believe all hoses where like that ,but apparently gardeners are in a league of there own,,for years i have been untangling after every clean, or having it wrap round my feet and have me over,,me thinks its time to change it  and have a stress free life,,,,lol,,,,good luck

You can train your hose to loop up nearly every time but it normally only works if your using hot water day in day out,if your using cold dip it in really hot water and coil it up how you want it,it should then keep its shape for at least a few days.

Don't know what the fuss is about.
Hose management is just part of the job.
I use it and it's fine, course it tangles but do you know ANY hose that wont tangle or get in a knot now and again!
Even the hose I use to water the garden drives me mad sometimes.

It is always annoying when pole hose does not cooperate. As has been said, all hose will at times tangle and loop, but there are methods/techniques that can reduce this happening - good hose management and correct care can make a large difference to how pole hose affects your working day.

Whilst getting a pole hose that suits everyone is not going to be possible, the standard PVC pole hose that we sell does generally suit a large number of our clients. We sell about 250,000m of this pole hose a year and a large number of our clients have no issue with it - I realise that this statement does not help those that do have an issue with it. I was out window cleaning myself yesterday and had two new poles I was trying out, each was fitted with a brand new length of this hose, whilst it did have some coil memory from storage, as it was new, this did start to drop out through the day - if it had constantly been tangling then I would also have got frustrated.

The standard pole hose we supply is lightweight, low memory and flexible - however with age, temperature change and not being stored correctly it can start to get coil memory and become less cooperative in the day. So what can be done to get the best from this hose? (not that it will still suit everyone)

1. Store the pole hose in a way that prevents coil memory. The best way to store the hose is to loosely hand coil it after each job. To do this most effectively disconnect the pole hose from the hose reel hose and from the base of the pole (not from the connector end) loosely coil the hose allowing any loops or twists to drop out. This leaves the hose in a good state for next use and helps prevent adding loops/kinks each time the pole is put away.

2. Do not leave the pole hose connected to the reel hose and wind back up on the the hose reel at the end of each job. This does not allow any loops/twists picked up during work to drop out. Within a very short period of time the hose will become so twisted that it would be very difficult to work with.

3. If the hose is getting coil memory and not behaving (such as when brand new and fresh off the coil) then dropping the whole coil into a bucket of near boiling water (as NWH has mentioned) for a few seconds and then loosely and carefully coiling up before laying flat ready for next use will make a big difference.

4. If the hose is getting old and hardening up then the above hot water method will usually work well, however if it doesn't then it make be time to replace the hose with new PVC hose.

5. Correct storing of pole hose, either laying flat or hanging from a hook will also help. Then, when connecting back up to the hose reel ensure that the connector end has not been pulled through the centre of the hose loop but is on the top ready for connection - this may seem an obvious point, but getting this right can prevent a lot of twists, loops and actual knots building up.

I hope that the above tips will help somewhat with those having issues with pole hose (ours or any other brands).

We do have two other types of pole hose in development for those that like the alternatives, but neither will be replacing the standard PVC hose option, they will just be extra upgrade options for those that prefer something different.

What difference is that going to make as the majority of the problems occur when the hose is connected to the pole,
the fact that you will be winding the hose around the reel could make things worse as Alex has pointed out second on his list.
Positivity is right its all about hose management and learning to control the temper when you get a bad hose day.

i use a few extra metres of  pole hose than i suspect a lot of window cleaners  use and only get the odd tangle here and there.i find the main reason is not disconnecting the pole hose from the reel hose a few times during your working day and straightening it out.

i found the all season pole hose very manageable and very rarely had any problems with cold water but i use aqua-daptor/exceed hose now with hot water

working with power washer hose infect it was that stiff you could have cleaned using the hose without the pole.

at the moment i have taps connected to the end of my poles so i have one big loop that just gets tangled and kinked, can be a nightmare,  but once iv converted my poles to tubeless hopefully it`ll be sorted. Incedently that particular hose issue is not the only reason i`m converting to tubeless, it`s for a variaty of reasons.

and reading Alex`s post about memory coil, if i find i have a problem with tangles etc because of having the pole hose wound onto the reel, perhaps i`ll just lightly hand loop it and hang it up.

I have still got some of that in my garage , I use it  from my pump box to connect to hose reel .
