Hi all,
Just wondering this today when protecting a suite, has anyone ever had any comebacks or complaints after protecting a suite or carpet, i'm mean like the customer has spilt wine etc and it wont come out???

It makes you wonder how good the stuff is and whether you put enough on when spraying!

do you ever offer a guarantee or does the customer expect it??

Hi,

This week we protected a brand new suite for a lovely lady, who managed to "stain" the suite only 2 days later.  We found this out in the follow up call and swiftly returned to blot out the stain without a problem.  Finished of re-applying the protector to the area and she was overjoyed.

It only took 15 minutes of our time (including traveling) and we took a rug away for cleaning aswell which was a nice bonus.

I think some people offer "xx days stain removal" as part of thier protection selling, but we havent found it necessary.

People sometimes put to much faith in carpet and fabric seals they dont realise that all it does is give you a window of 30 to 60 seconds to mop the stains up after that it can go anyway depending on what the stain is! so i always guarantee if they get to the stain in that time frame they will get it out!when i do a site survey i demonstrate it with a off cut of carpet i keep in the van and i've never had a problem in 10yrs!

I always give demostation, i take one piece of paper towel, block off half and spray one half, leave it to dry. Then with a pipette drop some water on both and it is a cool demo cos the water on the sprayed part just stays there like a stuck little bit of water.

Likewise, we use a sample of upholstery, one half protected, the other plain.  I always use a solvent protector as opposed to water based.

As for getting to it in 30 - 60 seconds, I am generally more optimistic and reckon within 5-10 minutes.  If the protection is correctly applied then it should block any penetration for this period of time, especially on suites.

So far we have never had to go back to treat a stain that has penetrated the fabric or carpet.

AS an aside we have now also started promoting "Stain protection to new leather upholstery" as well as fabric.

I think 'applied correctly' is the key, solvent based protector is the easiest to apply but stinks the home out! I've had customers in the past complain of feeling sick, I even ventilate room and tell them not to go in !

Water based usually works out cheaper and doesn't smell but the only problem is that I'm not always convinced that it works.

I wonder if Gardsman is still around? does that still smell bad?
