can anyone recommend a stain protection for carpets; i been using prochems 'flouroseal' but it's £33 for 5ltr tub and the coverage on that is only 30-50 sqm     a large through lounge can be 30 sqm

i estimate average through lounge with average pile would be £23 in chemical, (prochems flouroseal) using prochems suggested coverage.

not much profit

anyone suggest more ecomoical brand, and would it be as good?

The Prochem product is a good one...Perhaps you are not charging enough.

I rang Multimaster last month and thet said Scotchgard cost to appy is between 2 and 3 pence per square foot ?!

I did my workings out and couldn't get it to that !

quick maths £60 for 4 litres ( I know it's less)

 = £15 per litre which covers (being very generous) 30 sq metres

= 50 pence per metre or 5 pence per square foot.

Please tell me if I am wrong.

PS 1 litre of concentrate that is, dilute at 4 parts water -1 which is 5 litres of RTU doesn't half wet the carpet.

well sounds better than prochems, i like to do my best to put down the right amount so it works properly, always an element of guess work though, i charge £30 protect a lounge, i would'nt want to raise that i think thats fair, i want a cheaper protector, to raise profit marging.

i saw a london c/c website other day advertising £10 a room protection, lol  how do they manage that! ?

must use a special one like water.

I used to be a Multimaster technician but only used 'Scotchguard' when selling their warranty.

Multimaster are basically an insurance company who've bought the 'Scotchguard' name. I don't think it' s the same product - it smells the same as Stainshield Professional but somewhat weaker. . .

There's also very little difference between what they charge for insuring a suite protected/unprotected.

Fluoroseal or 3M or Stainshield Professional are better products IMO. Stainshield and 3M both work out at just over 50p a sqaure metre if I remember rightly.

craftex do a protector similar to prochem but  much cheaper. i have bought some to do some experiements with before i let it loose on the public

I heard a rumour that Chemspec aren't quite as strict about the license for Stainshield Professional now, as long as the product is applied properly.

I might give them a ring about it today.

For what it's worth I would charge £0.15 + VAT  per square foot.
When it's a nice house with good carpets they nearly always take it, especially in the lounge, dining, hall & stairs.
