Dispatch/Expert/Scudo 5th gear problem
« on: October 23, 2015, 01:56:02 pm »
Anyone with the above vans (2007 onwards) ever had an issue with it jumping out of 5th gear? Mine has been getting steadily worse over the last three weeks until now where it wont stay in 5th unless I hold the stick in place!! All other gears are fine. I've had the van over a year (late 2010 model dispatch 1.6 hdi) and there has always been lots of play in the gear stick when in 5th. When you press and release the throttle the stick moves backwards and forwards quite a lot and has done so all the time I've owned it. I'm pretty sure it's not a linkage issue as all gears select perfectly when not running.
Cheers for any help. ;)

Don't know if it's the same gearbox but might be the same problem.

It's a different gearbox as far as I'm aware Dave. However, on my first Google of this problem top of the list was "citroen dispatch 5th gear repair kit", so I guess it's not too rare an issue. Trying to locate a recon' or good used box. No immediate rush as I can happily drive around these parts with only four gears.

I'd be pretty sure from that, that your engine/gearbox mountings are knackered. Resolve that first.

I've considered this but it only happens in 5th, all other gears have no play whatsoever. ???

There's a van on sale in Peterborough that 3rd gear jumps out.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2007-07-PEUGEOT-EXPERT-2-0HDi-120-L2-H2-LWB-2-96t-HIGH-ROOF-SPARE-OR-REPAIRS-/231727291407?hash=item35f405dc0f:g:mK0AAOSwwbdWJ2s~

This guy is a van dealer and he has chosen to get shot of the van at a reduced price rather than bear the cost of repairing it.

So it looks as though there is an issue with the gear box on these vehicles.

This latest model lists 4 different gearboxes depending on model.  I see on each of these models there is a different part number of the gearbox assembly after a listed manufacturing date.  RPO No 11894 appears to be the change over point.

I would imagine that the problem won't have much to do with the gear set and syncro cone. Its more likely to be on the selector shaft mechanism.  The selector shaft has 3 balls (#6) and 3 springs (#5)  which 'lock' the gears in place.  I would suspect one of these springs has broken.

This may not be the gearbox in your van.

However, the play you meantion could indicate bigger wear problems. I would start with Cleanclears advise regarding doing a mounting inspection.
