scratched glass
« on: October 14, 2015, 11:26:58 pm »
i did my first scratched glass repair sunday . it  seemed to go well ,customer seemed happy enough , i didn't scratch the glass but a colleague of mine did.  i used a drill with a pad on it with 2 glass polishing compounds , 1 abrasive and 1 fine . i decided to get these of ebay after i tried toothpaste which was a complete waste of time.

GLASS POLISHING KIT~FASTER~CERIUM OXIDE~GLASS SCRATCH REMOVER 2 x 25mm BOBS~50g

yeah i was . but i had a free go because if it didn't work then the glass  unit would have been changed. so nothing to lose but a lot to gain
i took a video of it being done ,a friend and i did it together . if i ever do it again i think id get a better kit tbh

Might have a try, got a customer with some sort of etched stain on the he glass, could be just the thing to polish out.

How long did it take you ?

Just the one?

Mayb it's my area, but I've got quite a few customers with bad marks and etching on the glass from rain water running down the building then straight onto the glass.

Seems to etch into the glass and is nearly impossible to remove.

I'm sure polishing them out with a compound would work. Would need to charge them quite a high price for it though.

Nice one matey. I have done a few just remember to keep wetting the glass to keep it cool as it can crack the glass I have done my cars windscreen. With good results. Using jewelers rouge in a paste.

It will also works well with oxide etching on glass. Comes from the rendering of new builds. And stain removal from chemical damage. I have had some yellow stain on glass and also rusty stain will worked a treat to remove.
