Sure Degee, its just little amounts then add up to massive amounts - unless you keep on top stuff spirals - same for me in my business, if you dont keep a side eye on it...Its hard work enough doing the job, then keeping an eye on who owes what - seen it several times

This is something I struggle to get my head round - I know it has to be done in this industry.  Cash was but I dont think anymore

We still collect in our area and so do most of the other window cleaners. We do have a few on BACS (younger ones generally) one who sends the payment to my mobile phone number which is linked to my account and a couple of others who send a cheque,

I realise  that one day things will be different, but this will come naturally when our young customers become old (sadly long after my time)  and if and when our society becomes a cashless one.

Whilst collecting isn't ideal, especially on winter evenings/nights, I find it a good opportunity to chat with our customers who we don't see during the day. It adds a personal touch.

I used to thrive on giving bad payer a hard time. But as I am getting on its a pain in the butt. I use to confront them at every turn and always get paid. But I do have about 180 not paid. And it just make me angry. That people driving flashy cars can steel from the Old window cleaner.

Anger and stress effect your health Slap, so not only are they steeling from you they are also making you ill, I would be similar
to yourself especially if it was a large sum, there's no way I could let it go and as a person with high blood pressure its not a
good position to be in.
That's why I never clean a property that hasn't paid for the previous clean because that way I am never going to get stung for a large amount ok you can still get stung for a clean but I find that a lot easier to let go.
I have went down the small claims road in the past and it was just way to stressful and time consuming for it to be worth it.

The right way to view is as a percentage of your turnover. Then 30days  60 days and 90 days  and also in relation to turnover.  To me 90 days is lost 30 you can still win and 60 is alarming.

Some of the bigger (4 vans for example) commercial only companies must have eye watering amounts of money owed, it's just the nature of the beast. Take a £300k turnover and divide it by 12, with 60 day terms id estimate having £50k outstanding at any one time to be completely normal.

I'm also quite sure that a well respected member of this forum recently posted figures quite close to this too.

Always have a monthly rolling debt of about £500 after clean and collect.  Just a 2man one van operation though.  As long as it isn't getting bigger and bigger take it with a pinch of salt,  customers you don't see one month you do the next,  vica versa
when life throws you water, clean windows

Its funny isnt it. The busier you get the more money you dont get immediately. Lol

Im always owed around £900 at any one time. Currently its £780 so not too bad, it used to bother me but the missus always says at least its money due to come in.

I never let customers debt spiral. Who was it who said on here no doshy no washy????
