What do you consider unacceptable ? No payment for the last clean (6 weeks) or do you plod along not wanting to lose the contract?

Our terms are 30 days. We chase if that period is passed.

Ask them what timescale they normally pay out. Some are 60 days or longer

I wait three months, but always get paid eventually. I find the developers are generally the worst so i badger them after about a month.

It varies for me I have a weekly large shop that I invoice monthly it took them  4 months before I got paid at present they have 3 unpaid invoice.
On the other side of the scale my largest company I do work for normally pay within 7 days.
30-40 days is the norm.

Why should they be slow? I get fobbed off all the time with one company - I bet their staff get paid on time. I don't see why it's deemed acceptable to pay out so slowly. One company took six months to pay. I always pay my bills on time or before due date.

The longest ever one for me took over two and a half years. I had given up on it long before.
Then, out of the blue, I received a phonew call asdking me to do a second clean.  I agreed on condition that both cleans were paid for before I started work.  They even offered a cheque for both cleans when I turned up to do the second clean.  I declined as cheques can be stopped.  Nothing happens until the money is paid by BACS into my account and I've seen it in there after the overnight updates.
They paid and I did the job.  I'll only work for them again if paid by BACS in advance.

We have a commercial job that gave us their payment terms after we were awarded the cleaning contract.
One month after the end of the month the job was done.

So if we do the job in the middle of the month then we expect to be paid 6 weeks later. However the cheques are only posted out around the 10th of the following month.  This means that we should get the cheque 8 weeks after job completion.

We haven't been paid once yet according to their payment terms. There is always a list of excuses; the invoice hasn't been received (original emailed to the email address of the person who never received it, the order number given to use isn't correct etc, etc.) so we have to sent copies and await our cheque at the end of the following month.

We either accept it or dump it.

We took the job on as its internal only and we can do it during bad weather. The catch; we need to give them 2 days notice and the 2 day forecast has only been correct once this last year so far.

They're a pain in the ass Dave. I've just decided to dump another one who is a persistent pain and comes up with every excuse. "do the job once a week, invoice us at the end of the month and we'll pay you straight away no problem"....................has turned into me now still waiting for Julys payment. Someone else can wait for it. I havn't done them this week and don't intend to.
On the flip side its amazing what you can get when you ask. I was asked to clean a Store as a one off this week, and asked for pre payment. They didn't accept that, but they did go half way and paid the remainder in the following day. I told them if the money was in my account and i coukd see it then i'll go clean, if not i won't.

If you cannot afford to play with the big boys - Don't!

You should agree on terms and both sides should stick to it - if they don't pay on time - call and speak with the accounts department and chase up your money and demand to know a date they will pay - try and get an email confirming this if you can.

If the money does not arrive on the agreed date - call them and tell them by 4 pm you will be passing overdue amounts to your debt collection agency - 9 out of 10 will pay - Thomas Higgins for the ones that don't.

You cannot worry about losing a customer that does not pay - they are worthless to you - unless you like lending money out?

One largish commercial I recently took on was quoting 90 days for payment ... told the director this was not acceptable to me ... guess what for small companies like mine they will pay 30 days - but I had to push for this gem to be revealed.
