Your cover on plylined van floor?
« on: September 03, 2015, 02:46:19 pm »
Afternoon everyone

Just a quick one here.
What do you use to protect your plylined floor against water/solution spillage?
I have no experience with it and my first thoughts are to buy industrial rubber mats??

Thanks

You may want to check out www.carmats4u.com
They are tailormade for your vehicle.
Just purchased one for my Ford Transit Courier and more than happy. Approx £30
Made of durable plastic/pvc with a 6cms lip to retain any water/oil spills.
They also sell bumper protectors which are a great accessory

On your travels you are bound to come across some old carpet that nobody wants. Only needed to change it about 4 times in 14 years if you are reasonably careful.

Alternatively any carpet shops which you get business from may provide you with a small end of roll/off cut or even an old carpet they have uplifted before laying a new one.

And if it gets grubby you can always clean it. ;D ;D

You might get more info if you ask on the window cleaning section. They are experts at this kind of thing  :P

I've noticed a lot of the window cleaners paint their floors with a special paint that I think is rubber based and is usually blue.

Protectakote? I know a few carpet cleaners use it.

On top of the plywood I used some commercial vinyl flooring, glued it down and have a generous lip all round. I then went round with silicone to seal the edges where necessary. Only cost me £50 from my local carpet shop - he just said how much and I said about 10 ft off the roll please  ;D

I could have left it there but I then put some commercial carpet on top.

I wouldn't lay rubber-backed stuff loose - it'll always be wet underneath. We just varnished ours with acrylic floor varnish, which works OK, but i do like the idea of carpet - traps the grot and cleans your gear for you - just never got around to it.

They give some fairly good protection with small amounts of water spillages, you just got to watch any water getting inbetween the gaps/edges. Not great for heavy water spillages though, so you may want something a little better when you get a chance - but not an issue if you never have a problem.

This is a waterproof tanking kit which is used behind tiles for shower areas and wet rooms.  You simply apply the primer then tape all the seams and then apply the waterproof tanking.  It takes less than an hour to do a ply lined van and if an area gets damaged simply re apply the tanking solution only!  Simples ;D
