Glass roof
« on: August 28, 2015, 05:38:11 pm »
Am starting a big glass roof clean in the next week or so, I have been to see it today close up and they have asked if I can apply something ( wax or sealer ) to help the dirt run off it.
( the roof is propa covered in bird muck and they talking about self cleaning glass, I says it's going to do nothing against that amount of  bird crap )
I don't know of anything off the top off me head and I have also asked the question of how they want it be applied as you cannot reach the glass by hand only by wfp ......

Using wfp means it is water based and I can easy use a separate tank ...

Any help or suggestions are appreciated as I says I would enquire about such chemicals or other additives and no better place to ask  ;D

Nothing exists mate so don't waste your time or money, even self cleaning glass wont stop large amounts of bird crap building up
on a roof.

Would Vision work?

Help the dirt run off? you'd b putting itself out of a job ? Only thing I can think of is that spray stuff which u can put on virtually anything and the dirt ect doesn't stick , it just slides off

I don't know of anything meself and what damage is done to the glass is not going to come off they not been cleaned in a long time I just thought I would pop the question.

My water supply is already fitted to the building and tds 40, will probably go direct into double di and maybe some vision in a bucket to pre scrub glass from platform.

Will post pic when I start but I think there at least 6000 pieces of dirty glass.

Why waste resin just use the tap water and then finish of with pure (only if needed) and if your going to pre scrub with a chemical
then get something with a bit of bite like Virosol.

That's what is was meaning to say..... Will work from 1 end to the other ( about 400m ) first using tap water and a bucket of vision to pre scrub, on my way back will brush and rinse with pure - working off a rolling gantry that is hand wound so have to return same way

If the tap water is around the 40 mark you might not even notice any spotting on a glass roof you certainly wont after a
shower of rain.
I don't know if Id even bother rinsing with pure.

Smurf, 8 weekly or one of them geezers showed a pic of a great set up. It was a small whirlaway on the end of a clx pole that he uses for cleaning tiled rooves (roofs?) of moss. Thats what you want on a job like that.

Matty,
Clean it the way you think is right and then get them signed up to a maintenance contract. If you lose your a**se on the 1st clean, at least you'll have a better idea as far as pricing goes for the future. Good luck mate .

Sounds like me  ;D

Matt - you are really going to struggle with this, even pre soaking with virosol/tfr/anything  and then scrub with just a brush, it will take you forever and a day.

This conservatory was only 3 meter by 5 meters and took 6 hours ( this was a few years back ) I now could do it in 2

I'll drop you an email over the weekend

Thanks guys

This job is well priced, infact well over priced ....... I added for any probs I will get hold of a pic an you will see wot I mean.

The job it's self is easy just time consuming access is great for using wfp and I estimate 9 days for 2 lads ( me being 1 ) but have priced for 12 days

Darran that brings back memories, my first conservatory roof was the same it took me about six hours to clean
and talk about hard work using my xtel fiberglass pole with a brick on the end.
At the time I thought it would take an hour so charged £40

Yes, happy days, I knew it had bird strike on it, and easy access, but I wasn't prepared for how badly it had stuck to the glass and framework  :-X

I think it was a £60 quid touch should have been a couple of hundred really
