Have just upgraded my pump on my RO and have managed to tune the Pressure  to 78psi to achieve the lowest TDS I can get. Im really happy with that side of things..

However the pump has an inline Pre filter that is leaky and downright horrible So I have bought myself a 20 Inch filter body to fit an inline sediment filter..

Now should it be installed before the pump or after the pump?

All my filters are after the pump so pushing the water through, if before the pump it may not be able to draw enough water through the filter giving you pressure

All prefilter do not need to be under pressure to operate at optimum  level its the membranes that need the pressure. So pump before the R O.

So Pop the sediment filter between the pump and the RO

The inline filter is to protect the pump and should be before it, I wouldn't use a sediment filter as its not designed
for that purpose and could restrict the flow.
Its to stop things like grit getting into the pump so doesn't need to filter to the level a sediment filter does if
that makes sense.

I couldn't tell you how bad my water is or if an inline filter is needed I'm just saying what they are for, if he's pumping
straight from the tap then I honestly don't think he would need one if pumping from a tank then for the price they give a
bit of extra protection encase anything happens to fall in, the same goes if he using rain water.
Its a inline pump pre filter not an RO pre filter that the op is talking about.

Yes but read why he has bought it and what he's trying to replace.

I have, a 20 inch sediment filter will starve the pump if placed before it, the pump pre filter will almost certainly be a fine mesh that does not effect the flow not a 005 micron block.

Totally agree, but I get the feeling he's talking about replacing the mesh filter with the sediment that's why I said not to use
one for that purpose.
Maybe he is talking about the RO sediment filter but as he has already been making pure you would think he would already
have one.

Sorry . Been a few days..
To clarify Im doing away with the cruddy pre filter as Im feeding direct from the Tap..
My RO is a 21 inch EZpure setup (21" RO and 21" Carbon filter)  that Alex G used to sell.  I never got round to fitting a pre filter and as Im re-plumbing I thought now is the time to do the deed .
I have one of Gardiners Carbon / sediment filters to go in the 20 inch body which should just add another level of protection for the  membrane .
having read through the wisdom above I shall fit my 20 inch after the pump and before the carbon filter..
