Spare wheel security

So I've had my brand new Dispatch just a week and already, some scrote has nicked the spare.  I didn't realise they were so easy to nick.
Any tips about making the new one secure when I get it?
I didn't even know it was missing until I went over a speed bump at the garage earlier and started dragging the wheel housing behind me.  What a racket.  I suppose it was a relief to find that something terrible hadn't happened to the van but it's left me feeling angry and violated.
What can I do to prevent a re-occurrence (other than leaving the new spare inside the van)?

Padlock? Then wedge a sponge in to stop rattling/damage?

I Know on a citroen picasso you can run a nut and bolt through the boot floor, so it cannot be taken from outside the car, maybe you could do this with the van ?

Are you sure it was on the van in the first place?  when I got mine the spare was missing and it wasn't until
I got the van fitted out that I noticed it.

citroens usually are not that easy to take spare wheel off. doubt it was there in the first place.  best choice is to get a long locking nut - as vivaros, renault have

Mine has to be loosened from inside the van at the back doors so I cant see how somebody would take it without
damaging the bracket.

Good point my Dispatch spare undoes with the locking nut from inside.. was probably never in there.

I have the ODB PORT disabled. Pedal Box and spare wheel guard from these guys.

On my old renault master (x british gas van) the spare wheel is inside the back of the van in its own rack with the jack etc.

I've got an older transit connect and the spare wheel fits under the rear door area. You undo a bolt with doors open so it drops down. It was completely siezed up, I hacksawed the fixing off and keep the spare wheel inside the van on top of my tank, secured with ratchet strap. Safe as houses........ ;D

Well it wasn't quite so expensive as I thought.  I've sourced a new wheel with tyre on ebay for a touch under £120.
This one stays inside the van until I can sort out better security.  I don't like driving around without a spare as sod's law is bound to happen.
I doubt that I'm buying back my own as it's coming from the north.

Loads of new wheels on flea bay. I got 3 transit spare wheels for less than a tyre. Collected one and he had another in his garage. Looks of Ford gear like calendars. Must work for Ford and takes spares of trade ins etc
