Just cleaned my first hard floor newbie questions.
« on: August 14, 2015, 12:47:52 pm »
Been doing C c for years but did Jamie's course at Restroremate which was great so took on a gym hall which had 200 sq mtr vinyl floor. Had to strip the floor as it had black lines painted on it which would only come off with stripper. Neutralised the floor then applied Tight Shine.  After the first 2 coats of T.S it still had a patchy look about it but by the 4th coat it was all over glossy. We then applied a 5th coat and went back the next day and it was looking great. My only thought was how do I know how many coats to put on? It was all over glossy by the 4th and we put another one on after that but should be have put on a 6th? We had been at it for 12 hours solid by this time and were knacked but just wondered for future reference. Also the black scrub pads were brand new when we started but they had got very dirty with the paint stripped off. Can we just wash them and use them again ? What is their average life ?

Yes you can re-wash your pads.

You will find that there are 2 types of vinyl. Those with a wear layer and those without. That said it can be removed over tie and black pads will certainly accelerate this.

If you were to have used Chemspec Floor Sealer (2 coats) first you may have got away with less coats of Tight Shine or a more uniform finish in less time.

Burnishing a vinyl floor also heats up the plasticiser causing it to shine.

This can be worthwhile after a couple of coats to help get things uniform. It will also help cure your finish faster.

Jamie could i use my cimex diamond finisher as a burnisher? I know its a different set up from a mono rotary but I was just thinking with its higher speed?? This is all dependent on me getting the flippin thing working of course  :(

yeah its great for that type of thing. We actually have a burnisher version that has a vac instead of tank and no weights but is the same machine.

Thanks Jamie. Thought about burnishing the finish but did not know if I had to wait until it was 100% cured before I could do that. Never thought about the sealer, will try that next time.
