A new pick up, to replace my tired peugeot expert is on the cards.
Stumbled across this and beginning to think its simplicity could be ideal in the back of a pick up ( no truckman type top ) just unplug the hoselock and take with me or lock in the van when not working.  All that will be in the open truck bed will be a 400 L tank and a mounted metal reel bolted to the floor. Currently have an analogue controller and shurflo 100 psi pump wired to a leisure battery and split charge relay but thinking one of these could cut the swap over / downtime to a new vehicle considerably.

Anybody used one of these or bought similar ?
concerned about the quality / longevity of the pump and being 80 psi will it be man enough for up to 40 ft wfp use ?

The only thing I'd question is the claim that he gets 5 working days out of a 17ah battery, with no charging needed...
I've only skimmed over the description mind, but I'd be surprised if that was managed with 5 full days of use...

Personally if you have the pump & controller already, I'd mount them onto a board so you can take it in and out of your truck mount if thats what you want it for
Then its just a case of sticking the inlet into a barrel/tank and put a hose lock onto the outlet to fit onto a reel
Get a decent leisure battery with proper battery terminals and you can have them off in mins if you want to take that battery in for charging

TBH if I thought I was going to have the time I would build a pump box out of a heavy duty plastic tool box but on seeing the above thought it looked neater and ready built. Yeah wouldn't trust the "charge will last all week" but its so portable taking it in of a night to charge it  would not be difficult  ( I live in a first floor flat and street parked often at other end of street so sod carrying a leisure battery in a couple of times a week to charge it  !).

Don's right. That pump will be drawing just over 2 amps an hour. That's theoretically 8 hours work but probably more like 6 hours maximum as you never want to completely flatten the battery.

I'd get the pump box done matey, once you've got the bits it'll take you a day

Out of interest, how were you intending on filling a 400L tank from a first floor flat?


If you're on about bolting your hose reel & tank down onto the truck bed, I dont get why you need the portability of the pump box or have I miss read?

I don't but used to.
I had a 650 L tank in the van then.
I'd spurred off my mains with a washing machine tap to a 4040 ro mounted high on the wall in my hallway .
I'd fed waste and pure pipes under my floor boards. Waste went out a hole I drilled in rear wall and in to gutter down pipe.
Pure re emerged in living room and went through a hole i drilled in wooden window frame and was zip tied to a gutter that lead to the ground floor front door and porch with a hoselock tap on the end.
When I needed to make pure I would have to persevere and try and get a parking spot close enough to my front door to connect up about 20 meters of hose, this could often take a couple of hours of an evening in itself. It would then take me about 3hrs to fill from empty in which time I would sit near the window keeping an eye on things.
This went on for about 7 years until before xmas just gone when I thought f*** this ! and started buying water off a window cleaning friend of mine.
Happy days  and I got my life back !

Security was my thinking really and cold weather protection. Nobody in their right mind is going to want to or try to nick a water tank easily nor a hose reel thats bolted down, but a pump, battery and controller could be easy pickings .

I know at least 2 guy's that use pickup trucks with tops on no probs.

There is also a firm that specialises in wfp system installs for pickups too.

Its not that I'm dead against having a truckman top, just the ones I've seen in my price range haven't had them and also chucking my mtn bike in the back without taking the wheels off would be handy 
I like those plastic tanks, maybe in the future I may get one but I was looking for the fastest simplest way to swap stuff out from my current van  .
Still undecided as yet what to do. Looking at buying a ford ranger supercab (dual use for weekends with girlfriend and daughter ) have a 400 L upright tank, hoping that will seat nicely against cab and between wheel arches

The pump psi is irrelevent, the only difference between a 60 psi Surflow and a 100 psi surflow is the pressure switch, as you should have this diconnected when you fit the Varistream both pumps are the same. The varistream is your new pressure switch, and with that set to maximum you would be putting a connector popping 130 psi through your system.

I think it`s a good idea. I used to use a set up like it and it worked fine for me. Got about three days out of the battery as its not running a fully 8 hour day solid. Many of those pumps only draw 600 watt. Neat and tidy. Better than some of the home jobs I have seen in the past. All I would do is add a 12 volt plug into you vehicle`s power/lighter, if need be,
