Hi I'm after some advice on karndean flooring.
I've just brought a new house which requires a total refurb new kitchen bathroom ect and I'm looking at different types of flooring possibly concrete polished in the kitchen and some karndean in dining room and bathroom.
Does anyone know about karndean, eg is it hard wearing , suiteable for bathrooms easy to clean and maintain
If you have any experience or knowledge please let me know

  Hi David, yes i would say Karndean  is a very durable hard wearing floor and yes are easy to maintain, its best to use a neutral floor cleaner in combination with microfiber mops, another great choice would be Amtico which is even more durable but also more expensive, regards Tadgh

it doesn't matter which one you go for!  I have fitted and cleaned loads of both and dozens of other makes.  The whole point with Karndean, Amtico, Gerfloor or whatever one you fit is the sub floor preparation must be bang on, if that's wrong it won't matter what you choose it will look pants.  Make sure you get it from a recognised retailer and that the fitter is fully trained to fit it that is the important thing.  Finally, if it were my choice it would either be fully vitrified porcelain or a true granite which are both a little more expensive but nothing beats them for durability and both are bombproof

Dave we have had 2 Karndean floors in 2 houses both look good after years of use both in kitchen areas which are in high use and they clean excellently just apply a polish but as Kev says get it fitted properly the devil is in the detail the fitter on our first fit was the better of the 2 and it lasts and looks better.

Just like tiling the sub floor preparation is crucial.  Get that bit wrong and it will go wrong on the fit of the final surface.  The problem is with all those soft materials is that the problem takes a while to show after fitting unless you have a trained eye.  The sub floor only needs to move 1mm and it begins to show on the surface.  You need to go to a registered seller and check the fitters credentials and portfolio and even then seek references mate.  Just google Karndean, Amtico floor problems for some interesting bedtime reading and you will understand.

Here is a bit to get you started and they have hardly touched on the subject.  My minimum was 12mm if I could use it and then I filled every imperfection before I over skimmed prior to fitting!
