Permeate Pump and Booster Pump, Or just Booster Pump
« on: June 24, 2015, 10:25:19 pm »
Hello Everyone  ;D
I have a cheap entry level 300GPD rated R/O set up (I think the water enters the DI Resin chamber in the mid 30's TDS, by the way) , in my garage. My water pressure is probably 50PSI, and pure water production is painfully slow. I am pretty much certain, from your help and advice elsewhere, that a booster pump will help.

But, what is a 'Permeate Pump', and would that help still further? If they are any good, any ideas please on makes, models and prices?
Thank you very much :D

Hi Steven,

Your 300gpd RO sounds similar to mine. My mains water pressure is between 40-50 psi and the unit on it's own is painfully slow especially in winter. The introduction of a booster pump will certainly help and a permeate pump will increase it further. The booster pump will increase the pressure going into your RO and the permeate pump will create a negative pressure on the output side of the RO in effect drawing (sucking) the water through. The permeate pump uses the pressure of the waste water coming out of the RO to create this negative pressure which it uses to draw the pure water through. It also has the effect of making your RO work better. With no assistance at all my RO reduces my tap water from 400ppm to about 18ppm. with booster pump and permeate pump connected my RO produces water at 4-8ppm which in turn means my DI resin lasts a lot longer.

This is the one I'm using.

I bought it from these people. It cost about £50 a year ago.

It is fitted in between Your RO and your DI resin filter.

Hope this helps,
