wfp water usage
« on: June 19, 2015, 11:41:47 pm »
Hello  :) everyone
I have had a 10 year break from window cleaning, and have just started back up. I am completely new to WFP work, and have done my first day with the pole today ( well 5 hours this pm; carpet cleaning job this morning )
Thing is - I have cleaned 6 houses totalling £90, admittedly all first time cleans, so probably quite dirty; and used about 275-300 litres of water! This seems a bit excessive to my novice brain. I had the PSI set at 49 for first 3 jobs, then 45 for next 2, and 40 for the last. Is it me, or is that a hell of a lot of purified water for that amount of work? I did do frames all the way round, and sills, and turned off the on/off pressure valve every time not in use.
What do you guys in the know think please?
From Steven, with thanks  :Dfor your help

Hi Steven. I use a 25ltr trolley so it's fairly easy for me to keep an eye on what I'm using during the day. First cleans are always going to use a lot of water by comparison to maintainance cleans. I find that 25 litres on average earns me about £20 on regular cleans, but it can be half that or worse on first cleans depending on how bad they are. However, all that depends on how you have your jobs priced of course.

It doesn't matter how much time or water you use on a first clean, the important thing is getting the windows looking brilliant and then you'll hopefully get a regular job out of it.

50ltrs per house on first clean sounds about right to me especially if they've got connys , even without connys, first cleans need loads of water to flush the dirt from them 👍

Strangely I was thinking about this yesterday. I have just started using an aqua adapter which seems to save water. I reckon on about £1.20 of earnings per litre of water used.....about as valuable as unleaded petrol.

What I now do on first cleans (especially if they are really minging) is plug my spare hose into the custy's outside tap and then:
blitz the frames and the glass until they are spotless then use pure water as a once over on the frames (just to get rid of any hard water) and then a real good scrub and rinse on the glass.

1st clean always uses more.  It will reduce on maintenance cleans and as you get more practice

Water usage for first cleans seems about right esp as a newbie to wfp. At this stage it's better to over clean and over rinse so you get a great result.

Judging your usage of regular cleaning will be better, but don't be too obsessive with what others say they use when quoting £££ p/h or number of houses as everyone works differently, has different equipment and pricing, go for a general rule of thumb, I personally  managed a full days work with 400 ltrs  ( 8.30 to 3.30 ) for regular 4 and 8 weekly work.

Thank you everyone
It seems I was not ridiculously excessive, with my water usage. Does anyone have a suggestion on PSI for 1st cleans; and for maintenance cleans? The pumps, as is pretty standard I believe, will do up to 99 PSI. But as a general rule of thumb, what would you guys select, as a suitable pressure? And, should I go on a WFP course?
Many thanks from Steve :)

Plenty of on line stuff for learning wfp no need to go on a course can't beat experience.

Again what you set your controller on is dependant on if your using pencil or fan jets, what pump your using what bore size hose you have, can even depend on connections and hose from tank to pump and how old the pump is.

Regular window cleaning ranges from 60 to 75 ( depending on the van ) and first cleans are 85 to 90
Or 5 to 6.5 and 9 on the spring easy range of controller
