Few quid on the side in the warm weather...
« on: May 25, 2015, 04:52:39 pm »
Quite a few on here will know me as a seasoned Carpet licker, but the warm weather is now here, and I have the odd saturday mornings free, so thought that I would do a bit of window cleaning to earn some tax free cash in hand....

Obviously I am not going to stock up on full WFP kit, so will be going trad..

What basic kit would I need to start off...?? it is only going to be during the summer and autumn of course, back to indoor work in the winter..

Many thanks
Hector...  :D

Beer money is it?  ;D

I would recommend :
Unger 12" or 14" squeegee
14" t-bar and sleeve
bucket
a few sill cloths (can be old towels)
Scrim or microfiber for detailing
Ecover washing up liquid
small Step ladder
Ladder to reach upstairs windows

Oh and a Ford Escort.

You can set up a wfp system quite cheaply, buying a bckpack, DI vessel, pole, and bits and bobs .

Oh and a Ford Escort.

A Rover 600 is just as good - with the ladders sticking out of the sun roof.
It's a game of three halves!

thank you for all the help so far..
Big problem is I have a Nissan Primera (luckily the estate version) I have tied planks to the roof rails so I can put ladders on the top..

Will this be a bit posh though??

Get proper roof bars and bungees if you're on tight budget or better ladder clamps (but do not overtighten as it will bend roof bars).

If you spread your damp beer towels out on the dashboard it's always a nice touch. Kappa trackie bottoms and Nike Trainers are still the recognised attire for summer work. If it's really hot I have been known to wear a Gardiners baseball cap (backwards).

Yes. Anything Japanese (except Tosh) is a bit posh and an estate will only make you look too professional.  You really need a Rover 600 saloon and if you won't put the ladders sticking out of the sunroof then put an old mattress on the roof  and lay them on that. Otherwise the ladders will get paint marks on them.

Look for some second hand ladders, wooden  ideally you don't want to waste money on these trade rated ones

Oh and don't forget the roll-up hanging out yer gob.  Any window even remotely difficult to get at just leave it.

Don't forget your mums pink washing up gloves as they're ideal for keeping water from your skin. You don't want to be going home with wrinkley hands now 👍

Vinegar, newspaper and a beer crate 😀

With Hector in mind, it would have to be a heavy duty beer crate.

We don't want him crashing through it, do we?
