Hi all,

Ive recently seen a few people saying (or producing) newsletters and I was wondering how they help you out?

Also what kind of things do you put in your newsletters?

Do these things actually get you 'add on' business i.e. gutter work etc

Ive just put out my first newsletter, if nothing else i got to tell all my existing customers about the other services that i provide , also thanked them for putting up with the new system and bearing with me , have a look at it on my website if you like, and new payment optiions .

Your both right - but i think poleman is right in that a recomend a friend type thing is always a good ploy - i was thinking of a 50% off your next clean however

tried that when i first started 100 leaflets to my customers ... not a sniff  ........ word of mouth worked better , had more customers that way than anything else

That was good advice - honest once you do the new customer twice paid for the free clean and your be making money of the new one for years to come, get lots like that and as del boy says "everyone’s a winner"

I get the logic poleman I agree that it is good advice  but I dont come cheap I dont give it away, I go out do the job and expect to get paid, I believe I have a good rep with my customers which works for me

Chris i respect your point here, however i think you are missing polemans point. what he is trying to say is you can increase your marketing / business by not just word of mouth but by 'influenced word of mouth' ! 

There is nothing wrong with giving your customers a little incentive in helping you increase your round size......well i dont think so.

Infact many banks (including Alliance and Leicester - see another of my posts) offer £50 to existing customers that introduce new customers to the bank! now it cant be said banks arnt in the business of making money!

I get the point 100% what I think is there are better incentives than 50% off or a free clean, If your average clean is £40 youre giving them £20 off thats a lot of incentive,  10 new cleans a week your short £200 better to buy Mrs X a box of chocs from Tesco ,still keeps them sweet

I tried this when I first started and had a good responce.

Unfortunately the new cleans were scattered all over the place.

I offered a free clean for a referral whom I took on.  One lady went for it and I ended up cleaning her house free of charge for six months, but the six customers I got, I eventually dropped because they were well off my round.

I think you've got to 'qualify' your requirements if you do this.
