I won't accept house keys.  I'm OK with keys to a gate but definitely not for the house.  I even insist that a customer must remain at home while I'm cleaning insides (a job that I avoid as much as possible anyway).

I'm with you on this one.

im the same.i refuse to clean most customers inside windows apart from the odd posh large house and occasionally a customers inside kitchen window.

1. i cant be bothered with the hassle

2.im busy enough with outside work

3.i have to book them in

4.you could be potentially accused of stealing something inside the house.

years ago i used to clean a very large stately home inside and out(prince edward has stayed there a few times!)loads of family silver lying about.i heard something got stolen when they had decorators/electricians in(i was there cleaning the insides as well).

next month they told me they didnt need me anymore.i never did find out what really happened.....

its just too much trust IMO.i have got gate codes for some large houses and a commercial job but no house keys.
price higher/work harder!

I have a customer that left me a key hidden after i had only been cleaning her windows for about 6 months.  About 2 weeks later she was burgled and I'm sure she thought i had cased the place whilst i was there.  She didn't have them cleaned on the insides on the next time round and didn't really respond to my texts as she did before.  I did think to dump the job.

Anyway, good news was the thieving gits were caught and her jewellery returned and the trust level from her has never been higher! About 5 and half years down the line now and she continues to recommend me to all of her friends and colleagues and has even got me on the recommended trades list at her work place maintaining a load of waterfront holiday homes.

So in my opinion, hang on to the key. Your obviously trust worthy and you can clean insides! your'll get reccomendations flying in!

My concern is that she is a bit crazy. Any woman that gives a key to a stranger on meeting them for the first time is not firing on all cylinders. Or you are being set up?

How did she find you to get her windows cleaned?
It's a game of three halves!
