Making pure faster
« on: April 11, 2015, 07:41:56 pm »
Im using a old style merlin at the minute but its too slow as it took nearly 7 hour's to make 400 litres the other day. How much faster would a unboosted 4040 be? As I have been offered one locally and would it be even faster if I joined them both together?
Ideally i need to be able to fill up on longer jobs.

Anywhere between 70-120LPH un boosted.

You need to make sure membrane is ok as they cost 200+£ to replace.

Need to check your water pressure compared to membrane as well high vs low.

As for running two. Depends if you are on a water meter or not :)

Don't faff about, get a booster pump the merlin will do 100 ltrs p/h easy and produce better quality water

Hello rob, I use a Merlin, and I fill up as I go, so as soon as I pull up on job find tap connect up check tds after 5 mins, if it's less than 25........... Bang hose in tank

I recently changed my tank but I had a 350 which took about 3 1/2 hours to fill, I don't know on this tank I haven't  timed it, and I am not sure weather it's 500, as my mate swears it's a 650.

We get over 150 litres an hour from 4040 without booster pump on. Merlin ro are pretty good thou but not in the same league if you want speedy fill ups.

I'm on a meter so tend to fill as I go or use next doors tap  ;D
The one I've been offered is a stainless one but it does need a new membrane and if it means I can fill faster it might be worth it.

Funny stuff  ;D, sounds like a 4040 holder, maybe worth buying a new membrane and it will be quicker, merlin is ok but lose about 60% in waste,

Pick a spare ibc up and each night wen u get home drop ur hose into the tank and put wots left from the day, fill it up each night wen u can and u will always have a 1000 l of pure sitting up the drive, submersible pump to ur van wen u need to, and start again

Not a full set up just a tank to hold it. I have one at the top of me drive, wen I get home I just clip an 8mm hose end into my hose and leave it running til am empty go out in morning first job connect up and start filling me van.
This job is a joke rob. Been ere since 11 still waiting to start have to fin for 5

Don't no why it's upside down but ya can see wots getting done, done the clock as a good deed as we done the glass behind, finally getting somewhere with h&s but company from down south had to send a mediator to report on everything we done, standing there taking pics every  5 mins

A bit over the top tbh

This section can't be done with the lift we have, but I dry brushed a section if it in the middle. The shops underneath have wooden floor boards ad roof, water would pour in resulting in me replacing the ceiling tiles, that's not guna happen.

I was doing some research  on pure water production and the importance of water pressure. The point of having a high pressure on the membrane is so important especially  on the second and even third membrane on smaller R O. Apparently with adding more membranes will produce more pure but with each added membrane the pressure will be reduced by 50%  so it would be wise to add a second booster pump before the second membrane to make sure the pressure would stay high on the latter membrane.  Making sure you have a at least a 100 psi booster pump is key in producing a good result.  I have heard much of booster pumps on this forum but never how the right psi is important.

OMG, just got in bed,

Your very right there slap dash, if I connect up and pressure is good or correct, I get a good flow between 009- 020 say, I have in the past connected to taps and the pure trickles out at 40, 👀😡, time to disconnect and find another tap.
I am presuming this is caused by the vary in pressure. IMO. And I have never checked pressure or haven't bothered fitting one. so it's just my guess.

That's 3 yes's from me Rob........ Your through to the next round, ;D
gave them 2 prices, for labour, if they covered all costs. The price was then changed and increased by 40%, so I am now on job and nock so just want to get stuck in. Standing round for 2-3 hours a night wen you only getting 5-6 permitted working time is killing me, start after last train, but takes an hour to set lift up as basket and other bits have to be taken off to get through entrance. Pack away 45 mins before first train arrives.
Job is scheduled for 14 days from Thursday if I go past I have to take that 40% off and go at original price,
I no what there doing they want me to fail, but I have emailed main man wanting my standing around time back, they also adding extra work on and wanting these done immediately to put me behind, so any extra now will be done at the end or agree extension with no penalties.

I do wonder sometimes what I get myself into, but it will all come together in the end ( a week on Wednesday )  I hope
