Advertising trailer?
« on: April 06, 2015, 09:37:12 am »
What's the laws on advertising using a trailer?
My dad has a little square trailer he said i can have it made into a advertising trailer, but what's the law on leaving it places? Would it have to stay attached to my van or can you leave it in car parks etc.
I often see them left places but not sure if it's legal.
I was just going to get "need a window cleaner? Call ......." Then in small print our other services printed on it.

You also have to consider that if the combined weight of your van and the trailer are 3,000kg i think it is and  you did'nt pass your driving test until  after June 1997 you cant legally tow a trailer with a commercial classed vehicle without passing the trailer test .

My vans max load is 2900 I only use 400L of water and the trailer is tiny so would that be legal?

your right mate, it actually changed jan 97, I pasted my test in May 97, so I missed out.
I think, not 100% but we not allowed over 2.5 ton, may be less and can't tow trailers, for sure. We not allowed to drive a mini bus with 15 people on board only allowed 9 inc driver.

As far as those who can tow, or have upgraded three license, I don't see how it is illegal, it's just depends on where you leave it, and a good way of advertising.

I reckon a free clean for say, McDonald's or b&q or sutton, may get a blind eye turned to it being in there car park.

A guy I know who runs trailer driving courses had a young lad in who had to spend nigh on £2,000 because he wasn't legal .

Had caravan impounded  had to go to court and pay for course and test .

Check DVLA mate then you will know exactly what is required .

I wouldn't worry to much about trailer laws as you can tow up to a 750kg trailer which is plenty for an advertising trailer, but I would worry about where you can legally park it without getting hassle of the council etc.
