Yes or No
« on: April 01, 2015, 08:47:00 pm »
One of my custies has recently re-opened a pub in a small village that had been closed for 6 months and asked me to start doing the windows.

The  chap that used to clean it rang me today and asked me if I had cleaned it and if I was going to pass it over to him as he had been cleaning it prior to closure for 18 years or more.

He cleans half of the village and I do the other half.

So the question is should I let him carry on cleaning it????   Yes or No.

If you want the job, the answer is 'no'.  If the other window cleaner wants the job on a life-long permanent basis, he should buy the pub and then he gets to choose who cleans it.

Some window cleaners aren't the smartest.

The pub management gets to choose, not the other window cleaner.

No the customer has asked you to clean it, if the other window cleaner has a problem with that direct him to the customer. I doubt the other guy will approach the customer but if he does its the customers choice and they usually prefer to stay with their current window cleaner.

The fella rang and asked if you were going to give it to him? Wow. That is desperate.
Definite no.

Ask him if he'd consider selling the job to you, if he says yes then tell him he can't  because you have it now. And if he says no, then tell him you don't want to part with it either.

I wouldn;t be buying it (if i was him), just making the point that all he wants is money like everyone else. And its me that has the purse strings  ;D

Just tell him he was employed by the previouse owner until it closed down, the pub has now reopened under new management,
and you have been asked to do the job now, so its a big big No and you won't be handing it over, i dare say the new manager
wouldn't be very happy after giving the job to you he suddenly one day sees this other guy turn up out of the blue cleaning his
pubs windows.

Best regards
Lal

Richard, it's your job now.
I've lost plenty of jobs where a customer moves away and the new resident "imports" the window cleaner from their previous property.  It happens.  I've also gained work the same way.
Would you be asking this question if it was a residential 3 bed semi?

Does this guy pass on jobs to you that are on your side of town?  If he does then I would probably give the pub to him, If not then keep it

If it is a decent size pub and a good earner then I would keep it regardless

if one of your existing customers has asked you to clean it then why would you?unless you know him well and he passes on work in your area.other than that NO!

we all lose/gain customers from other window cleaners over the years.its swings and roundabouts.
price higher/work harder!
