I see these sets selling anywhere from £8 up to £40.
Do they all work as well as each other?
Just wondered where best to get them from and how regular do you change them to protect the membranes.
The ro is in an outbuilding out of direct sunlight.

The set I have always used costs about £10 and when the R.O. was younger I changed them about every 3 months.
My R.O. is over 6 years old now so I don't change the pre filters that often maybe once a year.
The sediment filter will work as long as it doesn't fall apart, the only thing that could happen is that it might slow down production if it gets blocked, this has never happened to me even after being used for more than a year, so I wouldn't be concerned about it.
The carbon filter is the most important as it protects the membrane from chlorine in the water, again I just buy a budget
one of these and it works for me plus I don't pay much attention to the usage allowances.
Remember what you are actually doing is protecting the cost of the R.O. membrane which some OCD types seem to
forget and end up spending more protecting it than would replace every couple of years.
Put it this way the £40 sets that your talking about would more than likely last about 3 months with average water production,
so over 2 years they would cost you £320.
A new 4040 membrane is around £200 plus vat.

To be honest I would buy them from a dealer like Gardiners at least you know what you getting.

Gardiners now do a single filter that does the job of all three.  Works out at £14.40 each if you buy enough not to pay carriage.

Swapped to the gardener fibredine prefilter 1 and 1/2 years ago, and my system has never run so good. Beats the cabin and sediment hands down. Change them about every 5 months.

Does the fiberdene replace both of the predictors ( I only have two on my 4040  for some reason ) so I have to use two of them or do you just use one ?

Most guys only have two pre filters on their R.O. set-up a sediment and carbon block, some of the manufactured systems add a third which is another type of carbon filter.
Why wouldn't they as its all extra when it comes to repeat custom.
The fibredyne  does replace both filters but if your water has a lot of sediment it might be better to have a sediment
as well to stop the fibredyne  getting clogged to quickly.

Michael I don't think anything would happen, at most you might get a bit more resistance but I don't know if it would be enough
to slow down production.
The idea is to do away with your sediment filter and remove the housing so you only use the fibredyne.
Michael nothing will change trust me your system wont run any better that's not what pre filters are for.
The ten inch fibredyne has a lifespan of 37800lts compared to the carbon block your more than likely using which has
a lifespan of around 13000lts.
It just means if you stick to these recommended figures which I don't then you wont need to change the filters as often.

So really they last three times as long for the same price ? Sounds pretty good to me
