What would be an average drying time of a axminster carpet 21x16?

Depends on what you are using.

Dry powder
Wet/dry cleaning something like Charlie pads or Texatherm etc
HWE
Dry Foam

was it soiled or very dirty?
how lond since cleaned?
Smokers?

was there good ventilation?

Central heated?

Stone floor?

dry vac also.

depends on how many times you go over dry, could get down to a couple of hours.

You could always dry bonnet it after to speed it up.

Is  there a limit to the number of Dry passes or time passed when you will not suck any  worthwhile additional water up.


I did a very quick experiment on Sunday, but would be interested in your thoughts.

I normally state 2-3 hours, but have seen them dry to the touch by the time I have packed up to leave.

It very much depends on the machine you are using, the solution pressure and the technique you apply.  Two people using identical machines can have vastly differing drying times, I know someone locally using the exact same machine as me whose carpets are still wet 24 hours after cleaning, suites up to 2 days!!  I get loads of work from his previous customers.

Ian, in direct answer to your question I would suppose just 2 or 3 passes would suffice. Years ago when I first started I was advised.......once you have finished your passes if you brush the carpet with your hand it should be a little bit wet but not wet enough to transfer onto your other hand. Crude but it has always stuck in my mind.......... Off the subject, I looked at your website for normal curiosity reasons and also because I am in the middle of doing one too and just being nosey to see what is out there. My question is, you advertise residue free rinsing and was wondering what you rinse with. I need to fond a good one as my supplies are running low and dont always want to ship stuff over from the U.S..... Best, Dave.

I thought it would be 2-3hrs, why I asked was a brought a new machine 3 years ago and could never get the carpet dry, even after 5-6 hrs, so I stoped cleaning them and used sub-contracters instead, I used the machine my-self a few times went on a prochem course, still problems!!
Then the machines varible flow dial stoped so went for repairs (to my uncle)  came back & well you would not belive the results I did this carpet yesterday and just as I was picking up my beer money the carpet was almost dry.
to think how many thousands this has cost me.

Drying also depends on humidity/weather and if theres no heat then yes it could take 24hours even with a TM.
