Selling up...
« on: March 10, 2015, 06:31:49 pm »
So i sold some work at the end of last year.
Nice guy who bought it.
No problems whatsoever.

Just before christmas he tells me window cleaning isn't for him and would i sell it on for him (not have it back)
I said i'd try.
Anyway, i asked a couple of lads who'd shown interest and before they replied, he calls me to tell me his mate has bought his round.
Happy days...I thought.

Now i've had about 8 or 9 calls from the customers saying that no-one has been since before christmas.
They're all little old dears. £3 a pop flats. Not good money on paper (which is why i think he's not cleaned) but you can crack 20 flats off in an hour easy.
Problem is: I've tried to get hold of the guy i sold it to but can't. He must've changed his number. Or blocked me.

What would you do?

Granny-you naughty boy. They're probably about your age ;D

Susan & the Johnny's: Just feels a bit...immoral. I sold them and was happy to. I am really undecided. I don't know where he lives, not even the town (i forgot but he did tell me) ???

Hoping for as many inputs as possible and make a decision based on numbers, pretty much...
But would like to hear from anyone who would just leave them, and their reasons for doing so please...

I'd be doing them. The only reason i could see not to do them would be you're treading on someones toes, but as you don't know who's toes you'd be treading on and they are infact without a cleaner it seems a no brainer to me to do them. Not sure why you threw in the bit about ...doesn't look good on paper,..thats neither here nor there. It pays you to go or it doesn't.

Could you contact some of your old customers who you think his mate might still be cleaning , then try and get a number for him and ask him what the score is .

Toe treading, yeah. And i think how would i like it if id bought work etc...

Doesn't look good on paper as its a bunch of 3 quids. One wouldn't know that it was a good earner until they got to the site. If they never went to site, they'd never know...
Actually, its better than that as its a fiver for insides (1 living room window, 1 kitchen and 1 bedroom) so the £3 flats become £8 but i didn't 'sell' that as its not every time-if that makes sense...

who wants to work weekends as well? ::)roll

i wouldnt take them on again.just try and get the guys number off one of your old customers who he still cleans for.

ive had similar in the past when selling rounds.not many people can hack window cleaning after a few months.its really not your problem though now as you ve sold it on.

another idea might be to tell a young newbie window cleaner that it might be worth them canvassing the area?
price higher/work harder!

Nope. All i had was his mobile number. He did a few days subbing for me too.
I've got his bank account and sort code but i don't think I can do much with that.

Not loads of details about the customers, it was only their addresses and their surnames.
Its secure sheltered accommodation flats with a warden. You know the type.
He was a friend of a friend (who I'm now no longer in contact with either after he got divorced)
Hang on, this is sounding suspect now.
Its not. Its just how it is.

I wouldn't do them myself. At the end of the day you decided to sell that work for a reason, whatever that may be, going back to them whether your stepping on someones toes or not, it would feel like your taking a step back in your business.
It's not your work anymore so move on, to better things hopefully, and if the old dears ring again just tell them you don't cover that particular area anymore.

If you have done all you can to contact him without any luck i would start doing them again,

if he gets in touch with you in the future about cleaning "his work" explain what happened and give him the work back

If the situation is what it is, then I would go do the properties, until further notice, if however he turns up I would say....... I have done you the favour of seeing to them while you have been picking ya nose somewhere, but as it's still really his work I would throw him some money out of what you have made, say £10- £15 per visit. Kind of a rental, on the other hand if he don't turn up in 3 months then it's your work and tuff 💩 on him.

For alls you know he may have had a career change and moved into the porn industry

I did have a few of those as well. I made a new years resolution to dump them and I did. I felt really awfull telling them that I could no longer do their windows but at the same time, phew, what a relief.

As for Mr PoleKing's predicament, he sold the work on. Me, I'd say sorry but I can't help or do anything. Part of me feels sorry for them but then again, we all have bills to pay. Do they worry about that?

Okey dokey Doley......

as an outsider to the world of winder licking, I will say this.....

Do you want to do the work or not?

Once you have answered that question to yourself honestly.....

you will know what to do, and THEN you will justify what you have done.....

But only YOU know if you want to do the work or not....
